I can't speak for the Laptop he bought, but I know the T420 has horrible viewing angles, so if the HP Elitbook has better viewing angles that would totally be worth it.

Also, seriously 1366x768 is perfectly fine. It's all about the physical size of the screen. If it was 17 inches I wouldn't be able to handle it, but at 13 and even 15 it could be worse.

I'm not sure what medium is, but I'm going to *guess* that's the 13-15 inch range. If it includes 12 inch laptops, I've used both a Thinkmeme x220 and x230 and they're pretty nice with goodish viewing angles, but both models lack an HDMI port (Displayport and VGA only)

In fact, if you want an HDMI out, I think you're going to be hard pressed to find that in a Thinkpad, but I'm not sure about HP Elitebooks.

Thinkpad T430 (which means newer island-style scissor switch whatever who cares keyboard) with an i5 8GB of RAM, it comes with the charger but the battery may be a kill. That's so far the best thing I think I can find in that range.

Read the descriptions carefully.
Check to see if they include the charger.
Check to see if the battery is bad or not.

I have the same laptop as you but picked 1080p because it was a good deal cheaper and I planned on mostly using it hooked up to my TV.

I don't know how scaling is on Arch Linux, but I still sort of hate it on Windows as well so I stuck with 1080. I wish I had waited a year before getting the laptop though because the new one they just released has all the ports at the back now, which is perfect for how I have my laptop setup but oh well.

Wireless uses ath10k driver with firmware from killernic website. Had to rename the firmware itself because the driver looks for something with a different name than what's in the tarball.
