I hate spending money so most of my tech is fairly old. I have an 8 year old Pentax dslr (some of my lenses are from the 70s), my main computer is a T420 chickpad, and most of my random household electronics like clocks and stereo equipment are thrifted and from the 60s-90s.

Again, why upgrade when older machines, well, just works?

wouldn't knock them that much, maybe they aren't up to big bloated newer DEs but they're not really in ultra-light territory, that's for destitute shit like P6 gear, P4s and their Athlon counterparts are a bit faster than a lot of people here give them credit for, when you really think about it

but maybe I'm just overly patient and talking out my ass, when you've messed with a whole bunch of old shit and seen just how much you can do with so little, putting stuff from ~2003-2006 to work feels like easymode

Thinkpad T43. I guess once in a blue moon I use it, but it's my little sister's daily driver now. It's running lubuntu and can handle a lot of stuff within reason, like oldschool runescape and perhaps even youtube, although you'd probably have to watch youtube through mpv if you don't want stuttering. It has a really noisy fan, and even if I'm willing to put down the $15 for new fans, it might also be a firmware issue that the T43's had.

But anyway, I have a model m (sadly a rubberdome one) that I use that is probably from the 90s.

I've got a late 90s (98 or so) DVB-T USB-TV-adapter that still works fine. It's even recognized without any drivers in old (and of course new) Linux versions.

Unfortunately next year, DVB-T will be switched off and replaced with DVB-T2. My old pal will be useless then.
>>
>>56979858
Well seeing as you know that now and enjoy it why not take the time in between to figure out how to load DVB-T drivers (or whatever the fucki it is you do) and make a tutorial for people in a similar situation come next year?

Sharing is caring and helping people out feels good man.
>>
>>56980079
That is the thing. It seems I stubled on quality hardware there that came with Windows drivers and needed no drivers for Linux.

X200 from 2008 still sees regular, daily use. That's probably the oldest. I also have a pair of Grado SR60s that I used to use a lot, bought them some time in 2009 but I've switched to earbuds mostly (due to ease of transport). Also, the headphone jack is fucked (again) so I need to repair that before I can go back to using it regularly.

I don't use anything that's over 10 years old because I tend to sell that shit before it becomes worthless and use the money to buy newer tech.
>>
Watch repair anon here. I'm giving up on my HMT. They're fucking shit.

I decided to ditch the beat to shit balance assembly and put in another one from a donor HMT. Cleaned it, installed it, oiled the jewels all that shit: a whole minute of positional variance between dial up and dial down. So fuck all of them.

I might get an original Citizen balance assembly though, but at this point why wouldn't I just get a whole Citizen 0201?

I use my desktop that I built 6ish years ago but I've been maintaining it.
>>
Thinkpad 410s that I bought used. It's refurbished with an SSD. I used to use it a lot and now am starting to do so again since my Macbook died.

1988 Beomaster 5500 receiver, works as if new. The remote's volume dial has issues, though.

2002 Compaq Evo N160, Pentium III, Ubuntu 16.04, with a Netgear WLAN Cardbus card. Sadly, graphical browsers not stable any more, though. Use it most weeks.

2005 Socket 939 mobo in daily use as main machine (Asus A8N SLI Deluxe).

Posting this from a Toshiba Tecra M7.
Aside from the screen being really reflective and it getting kinda hot, it works for basic shitposting, word/excel/pdf/chrome multitasking, 720p local playback (stutters when doing yt 720p though). Great touchpad although a bit small, and the keyboard is the best I've ever used, and I've switched like 20 laptops. Cost me about $100 total with 3GB DDR2 RAM, still using a 100GB HDD too, since chink SSDs are like 42$ now and they used to be 30 bucks.

Ballsy rotating screen and pen input too, although I don't use that much at all. Love the fact I can just rotate the screen when watching movies so I don't see the keyboard, just works great on Windows 10 (old pic here)

And my G2, 3 years and running, 5h sot every day, 3 standby days.

On this bad boy right now. Still my only computer, still on Snow Leopard. Looking at the upcoming macbook pro, but might just build a PC instead since the unibody is still good.

continuing:
1999 Minolta PagePro 6ex printer. Lacks Windows drivers since Vista, so it's now Linux only.
2001? Saitek Cyborg 3D II USB joystick. Had to resolder one cable a few years ago.
2005 T41 several days per year, Lubuntu 14.04.

A somewhat old HP xw8200 Workstation. As my main computer it's pretty decent.

Kensington turbo ring trackball, I think it's from the early 2000s/late 90s. Got it off eBay awhile ago, use it almost every day.

I think my 1934 Westinghouse Master-Aire is my oldest item that still gets used. Definitely the oldest thing I have in the electrical technology realm. It is actually in daily service rather than just once in a while.

I still have an old Athlon XP 2600+ system I built back in 2003. It still works too.

I actually use a MacBook AIr as my main machine.

1978 Marantz 2216B in daily service. All original except for dial lamps.

that's neat. I have a 1950s custom-made drill press in my garage that sometimes gets used, but I'm thinking about doing some repairs and modifications to that machine.

Ayy just shot a concert with the same lens the other day. It's just decent enough for prints, and perfect for newsprint or magazines.

Nice. If you can fix it up and keep it useful for many years to come then I strongly encourage it.

I have a small clamp-on vise that probably dates back to the 1920s or so. Also have a handful of wrenches and pliers that are about that old as well. Old tools are one of my favorite areas of interest because many of them are essentially timeless in that they're still just as useful decades or even centuries later. There are some things that have greatly improved in modern times, but other things that basically haven't improved or even changed at all after many decades.

Used for actual productive tasks: Thinkpad 600X from 1998.

Used for gaymen: Commodore 64 from 1984. Or Atari 2600 from 1977 (heavy sixer) if you count consoles.
