The only thing you really need is a smartphone with a good 1080p screen, 2GB and above RAM, 1, 6 GHz and above CPU, SD card extension slot and custom ROM support. Everything should be working smoothly with small tweaks and you'll be set till your device finally dies. Literally there is no need to upgrade your phone every year because there changes are little noticeable and don't affect you in the longer run. You just need to care for your phone and from time to time delete files from memory/restore/flash a clean ROM.
