Amd fag reporting in.
I went from 2 Nvidia cards to my current one (290x), and while I'm satisfied with the card I have to say the software sucks shit.
Every time I install or update new drivers it asks me if I want to install a shit ton of random extra software, which I unchecked from the list, and then it goes ahead and installs everything anyway.
The AMD utilities are really feature lacking and have a very non intuitive ui in comparison with Nvidia. I'd recording is a big thing for you then definitely go with Nvidia.

Even if you're on Nvidia, you should be using OBS instead of ShadowPlay.

But yeah, RX 480 acceleration is supported, just not h.265 yet.
