Thanks to the Yahoo privacy scandal, I have decided that I want some privacy.
I personally think that there is probably no better way to get put on a list than to delete Facebook, install Tails, encrypt everything, and use Tor for all your computing needs, and then tell everyone about it. I'm still going to use macOS, Windows, Android, and iOS for my normalfag shit that the apparatchik doesn't care about.
I have a 30 USD shitbox with a Pentium 4 HT processor that I am going to convert into a privacy box. It has no wifi. Cheaper is better, because I don't want evidence that I bought privacy related stuff on the blockchain or on my credit card. I want to go full retard on this box, with 100% libre software, fully encrypted, and total internet anonymity. Why? Because of my political beliefs. Being a conservative is a good way to get fired and blacklisted in Canada.
I know I could (((google))) around for help, but I respect /g/'s opinion on these things because if there's one thing you pedophiles know about it's internet privacy.
Questions:
VPN vs Tor?
Which distro?
Which browser?
How do I use git anonymously?

>VPN vs Tor
Tor is you need high secure connections, else HTTPS is enough most of the time.
>Distro
Debian.
>Browser
GNOME default browser
>git
Can't
>>56959277
Start with https://prism-break.org
and pick what you want to defend against, if its the NSA go to freenet,
if its ad companies just do a couple browser plugins.
>>56959362
Tor does not create security, it creates anonymity, Tor over HTTP is asking to get fucked.
>>56959362
>Tor is you need high secure connections
What?
>>56959277
>(((Google)))
Does that mean you think google are Jews?
>>56959339
Better than a left wing nut job
>>56959434
It was literally founded by Jews goy.
>>56959368
>freenet
Can I use freenet to use Twitter?
>>56959362
Git can be done over Tor, just make sure to anonymize your timezone.
add-commit -- alias for '!git add -A && git commit -v --date=`date --utc +%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S%z`'
>>56959441
Ah. But still, how is that relevant to you using their tool for finding information?
>>56959467
Because it reflects their political beliefs. Did you see the Marxist Gook they put up a few months ago?
>>56959339
As a left wing nutjob, nigga you can go fuck yourself right in your non-binary ass.
I may not like or agree with what the right wing has to say, but goddamnit if I'm not gonna defend their right to say it.
OP, it really sucks that you can't express yourself politically on Canuckistan. TAILS should do just fine but you can always use an overseas VPN.
>>56959508
Doesn't tails wipe itself on every restart? What if I want to write some code or a long forum post?
So should I get a VPN or just use Tor?
>>56959547
Do you restart your PC in the middle of a long forum post?
I think it has some degree of persistent storage, but don't quote me on that.
>>56959571
Learn the diffs, Tor is usually better, but slower.
>>56959508
You can set up encrypted persistent storage.
>>56959585
>Tor is usually better, but slower.
I don't care about speed. I won't be downloading games or porn.
>>56959582
No if you work on it for a few days or something.
>>56959277
Vpn
Debian stable
Hardened Firefox
With Vpn
>>56959368
This, OP. Follow that link, anon
>>56959508
As a neutral person, I can tell you to fuck off as well. OP had no reason to state his political ideologies, as they have literally nothing to do with what his question is. He just posted that shit because he's an attention whore.
>>56960013
you stupid fuck, he posted that he's afraid of his political opinions being used against him because someone was bound to ask "what are you scared of"
VPN not needed. Use tor or i2p when being super spooky.
Palemoon + Encrypted Web addon + uBlock Origin + disable safebrowsing in about:config
tutanota or protonmail for emails, learn to gpg. gpg is all you need.
Install debian. Use encrypted LVM and be sure to seperate your root password. Forget what you know about sudo.
Don't use social media at all. Learn to live without it as i have.
Don't put real name anywhere, especially in email usernames. Delete what's out there.
Prism-Break.
You're done.
>>56960039
Using Palemoon + Tor is worse than Tor Browser Bundle.
Freenet > I2P
>>56960057
Of course, always use TBB where actual web browsing is involved. Anything else = use torify
Also I2P -> CPNET
>>56960075
There is a small portion of CP on Freenet, Clearnet has ton's more same with .onion,
When was the last time you lurked it?
>>56960013
>>56960029
OP here. >>56960029 is right.
>>56959617
>I don't care about speed. I won't be downloading games or porn.
It can be REALLY fucking slow
Like, pictures don't load instantly slow
And it takes 2-5 minutes to actually connect each time you start it up
>>56959277
Get offline
>>56960209
45 second network bootstrapping for me,
Pictures load slow on shitty websites with lot's of custom javascript and css and font. The type of sites that tend to track you.
>>56960039
>Don't use social media at all.
That's not really necessary, just make sure to turn off every single app permission that the app doesn't absolutely fucking need (like camera roll) on your phone, and block most scripts for those sites on your browser
And of course be mindful of what you put on there etc
>>56959277
>Thanks to the Yahoo privacy scandal,
HAHA WHAT?
WHY IS THIS NEWS
WE KNEW YAHOO WAS DOING THIS SINCE THE SNOWDEN LEAKS
EVERY OTHER COMPANY IS DOING IT TOO
>>56959339
Libs want to do away with privacy too
But its mostly so you dont hurt their feelings and post racism on anonymous Chinese cartoon websites.
>>56960268
Don't complain that it is news, use it to push the open source encryption agenda....
>>56960268
We knew it might have happened. Now it's confirmed.
>>56960268
The yahoo scandal isn't about PRISM
Yahoo got hacked and whoever did it got the passwords of over 200 million people
It happened 2 years ago and they're just now telling people
>>56960312
http://thenextweb.com/security/2016/10/04/yahoo-has-been-secretly-scanning-your-email-and-handing-them-over-to-us-intelligence/

>TWO privacy leaks
RIP yahoo
>>56959277
and we have a new terrorist suspect.
>>56959277
>yahoo got hacked in 2014
>got every account associated with a certain yahoo email stolen in early 2016
>got them all back
>none had money access
>two weeks ago yahoo finally notified me that my account was compromised and they lost all my dox, secret questions and answers, and my cellphone number which can be used to make a fake sim card and re-steal all of my accounts
Fuck yahoo so much, and fuck any company that demands cell phone numbers for account recovery.
If I would have had my paypal on that yahoo account or given ebay the access to paypal they keep asking for, or kept amazon updated with my new card number, I would have lost literally thousands overnight.
Yahoo is a shit company that took two years to admit they fucked up.
Any other company that doesn't encrypt all of their data and/or uses cellphone numbers as account security is a shit company too, this includes gmail and hotmail/live.
>>56959277

>>56959277
Keep in mind that a P4 rig is going to have a very hard time with strong encryption.
I'd suggest a VPN, as Tor sacrifices personal security for complete anonymity. Tor exit nodes are known to save data, so it's best to use it only when you're doing activity which in no way reveals your identity. A good VPN will also give you anonymity and will not save any data about you, and will also be much faster than Tor.
Smart phones are huge data mining tools. You should get an older feature phone if privacy really means anything to you.
Just use Firefox with NoScript and Request Policy.
