Why don't we call them Man Child Machines?
Because we don't talk about them
>>56958936
Yeah you do.
>>56958906
holy shit, that design actually makes me laugh
>>56958906
Best people sometimes like laptops more than desktops but would like similar power to a desktop. Are you seriously this fucking retarded?
>>56959102
So they get something that functions well as neither, got it.
>>56958906
Because manchilds use thinkpads instead :^)
>>56959113
This functions well than 99.9% of desktops and is portable

Stop living in 2007 bud.

I took a gamble on an Alienware earlier this year because I managed to talk my way into a 30% discount. At that price it was a good buy for muh games.

>Best people
I never asked why people buy them, you fucking idiot.
hey /g/ what is a good looking laptop I can bring to work? I can't find a Let's Note (USA) and fear reprisals if I bring a mac in and look uneducated. Would use a vista-era lifebook but the screens are rubbish

Yeah, with absolutely no heat issues whatsoever and a whole 37 minutes of battery life! There's definitely not a massive price markup either!
>>56959280
i actually read that as "because" until you posted that
cnfiemed for illiterate
>>56959324
What sort of workplace would look down on you for using a mac? They're used in every industry.

I mean, even if you have windows exclusive software you could always just dual boot or virtualize it. Valve famously bought iMacs for their development team and installed windows on them because they were the best hardware option at the time.
But if you have to go windows, dell business line or thinkpad.
>>56959324
Thinkpad from ebay make sure to get an ssd for os.
>>56959486
thank you anon, I'll check it out. I used to buy HP enterprise laptops but the batteries kept malfunctioning... to this day I can't replicate the feeling their keyboards gave me, the Topre meme doesn't even come close.
Valve can afford iMacs on the house because they don't build software lol
>>56959386
Sysadmins everywhere. We know it has BSD+Mach under the hood. We still make fun of it.
>>56959142
>using the smiley with a carat nose
>>56959367
You'll only be finding heat problems in the small slim form laptops.
Anything bigger than that and there's no hear issues whatsoever.
Welcome to the future, laptops have completely caught up to desktops, aside from their price.
>>56959676
Aren't laptop CPUs still like 20% behind their desktop counterparts though?
>>56959676
Sorry, I just don't buy it. It's a smaller space, with smaller fans. You can't change physics.
>>56959706
Not when they have a desktop cpu
>>56959716
What if it's binned to run at lower voltages and generate less heat?

Thank you for clearing that up, Pajeet. Great English skills!

What are /g/'s thoughts on MSI laptops? I am seriously considering one.
>My laptop is a racecar is yours?
>>56959706
Irrelevant for games, the fastest desktop CPUs are way overkill for any game, so a small frequency loss wouldn't do much harm,
>>56959716
Desktops are easily capable of running modern GPUs with room to spare for turbo boost and overclocking to spare, and still not hit the thermal limits.
Even with a considerably reduced cooling capacity, all you're looking at is a loss of overclocking, a higher tendency to reach the thermal limit, and more noise.

All gaming laptops battery packs are actually pure shit. be prepared to bring 5.

So I'm a manbaby for scooping this up for 215?
Dunno about you, mang, but I'm enjoying mine.
>>56958906
because some people buy these as cheaper alternatives to mobile workstations for CAD and other computationally intensive workloads that may require them to travel.
I had considered a "gaming laptop" but my small business account made a Precision workstation ~ 300 bucks cheaper than a comparable ROG or Alienware laptop, plus it has a 3 year no questions asked warantee on all parts with next day on site service, or i can replace it myself. The "gaming laptops" did not allow me to do that.
>>56963796
No, you're a fucking faggot.
