Linux philosophy is that each program should be responsible for one thing, and one thing only.
Systemd differed from that on that it serves various functions for the os, some of which can be considered bloat if users do not need them. It's pretty autistic to not use a distributor because of systemd, especially now that everything except Gentoo and devuan use it.

If it's an OS, then it is a botnet. Have you learned nothing?
Bonus points if you can turn off anything that can connect to the internet. The more you can isolate the system, the more of a botnet it is.
