Correction. Dumbphones aren't the issue, but the sim is.
Just did some research and SIMs have their own processors and were originally going to be a one chip with all data in and the actual phone just a host.

So, the SIM can store data, calculate data, recieve data and send data (if in host phone) and,
Run "applets".
There are probably some carriers who have placed some kind of backdoor in which allows them to upload and run their own applets.


In a nutshell.
Not even a dumbphone is safe.
The SIM is a backdoor.

Anything a little older, running a custom ROM with FOSS apps.

If you have some kind of connection to a phone network, your shit is compromised. Just because your phone software is not phoning home to some corporation or three letter government organization doesn't mean your data can't be intercepted at some point in time.

Installing Copperhead, using an old Nokia, secure browsers and so on, is just laughable. If they want to watch, they'll watch.

They'll watch when they want to, but if it is physically impossible to use such mediums as tracking methode, they can't without any field trips planned to play hide and seek with you. Which, in this age only takes one person nearby you who isn't as technically advanced as you to blow your cover.
