If your coworkers don't mind the loud noise then you could get one. This is one of the louder keyboards out there. Even if I close my doors you can still hear me typing in the room next door
>>
This is a stupid ass question, is the only way to get the delete key on an hhkb pro 2 to function as backspace and delete with function if the dip switch is off? When it's on, it's fn delete for backspace, but when it's off it just functions as backspace. I figureed one mode would have fn delete as delete, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Is there a 3rd party progam i can use to bind keys with the hhk pro 2? I'd really like to be able to use fn+delete as "DEL" and use the key normally as backspace.

The numpad has your system keys plus your arrows.
Does anyone make a 'syskeyless?' All your letters, F keys, and a numpad? It's only 1 extra column compared to a tenkeyless. Isn't that the whole point of num lock?

This is the KBParadise V80 TKL with vintage style abs keycaps and clear or brown switches.

Are there any other keyboards like this that have a vintage aesthetic? I wan't to look around more before I commit.

Can anyone recommend a Cherry keyboard to a nablet?

I don't have any particular preferences or budget constraints, although I would like a "full" keyboard (with a numpad) if possible. Backlight would actually be nice as well since I live on the dark side of the house and it gets 2spooky even with two desk lamps and a ceiling light on at night.

Ducky one backlit version. 90 bucks and loaded with features.
>>
>>56950622
You mean something like this?
>>
>>56951108
They're also horrifically unreliable.
>>
>>56951223
Thats because they used cheap materials to save on costs. Everyone did that back in the 90s when rubberdome keyboards became popular. Alps tried that to but they just were not profitable ans sold of their mechanical switches to fukka. Now that mechanical keyboards have exploded in popularity and production has become cheaper they can afford to sell their switches at a premium and still have a profitable market
>>
>>56951153
Pretty much, although I'd rather have ALL the function keys along with pause/break, scroll lock, and print screen/sysrq.

Matias quiet click switches. Not only are they more tactile then cherry browns they are also quieter then rubberdomes

LEDs arent the worst issue, you can always turn them off when one breaks. The bigger problem is the nonstandard bottom layout means you will have a bad time replacing the poor quality stock keycaps.
>>
>>56951848
I think it's ISO I would prefer although I'll consider either if the keyboard is right for me.

Return it while you still can. The lux adressed the LED problem, but the layout isnt the best thing there is. Espicially when you want to get high quality PBT keycaps you'll find that it will be difficult finding a compatible set

They use really thin keycaps. On the right is what corsair uses compared to other higher quality keycaps. Hope this picture helps

Do they break or feel bad or something because they are thin?

Magiforce 68 on massdrop

anyone use one? Default keycaps are ugly as fuck, are they easy to replace? Also thinking of getting these gateron instead of cherry switches
>>
>>56952092
Not him, but I don't know.
We use cheap ass rubber domes in an industrial environment and replace them every few years, typically because of blunt force trauma.
I have yet to see someone wear a key's facing so much that it falls off the keyboard.
>>
>>56952092
They just shine really easily like pic related. Unless you hammer the keys there shouldnt be a problem PBT keycaps are more resistant to this and are also physically stronger. They also have a softer feeling. This wiki page should help
https://deskthority.net/wiki/Keycap_construction
>>
>>56952185
>I have yet to see someone wear a key's facing so much that it falls off the keyboard.
You should ask Richard Stalman.
>>
>>56952224

Is the shine just cosmetic or do the keys start feeling different?

I'm obviously new so I don't know about this stuff.
>>
>>56952350
If you like grease build up and hard to clean keycaps then get abs. If you want keycaps that you can clean with strong alcohol and not worry about them then get PBT

Logitech k120 is a good rubberdome

If you want a cheap $35 mechanical keyboard there is the Tomoko, it is water resistant and has no numpad
>>

The Tomoko isn't in my country apparently.

I need a keyboard right now, and a mechanical keyboard requires more analysis, and maybe 1 month shipping from ebay. I'll just buy the Logitech k120 or other similar Logitech keyboard.

Thanks.

Wasdkeyboards got mx clears back in stock for their 88 barebones keyboard, just ordered one. Super hyped, been wanting a tenkeyless ISO board with clears for ages.
Which leads me to my question: I have a Novatouch keyboard that I got for free cause amazon is weird, but I don't really like it, and am considering selling it. Have any of you had experience with selling your keyboards?

I have the Cherry MX Green MagicForce. My only complaint is that you can't use modifiers in conjunction with the FN key, so, for example, if you use Linux and you use Ctrl + Alt + F2 to access terminal, you won't be able to do that on the MagicForce
It's a minor nuisance though. Work around is simple enough.

It's a good solid keyboard and a great value for the money.
You should definitely replace the keycaps.

100g of force is double that of cherry blues which has 50g.
It would help but if you really want to go all out them maybe a combination of spring replacement, some o-rings on massdrop

(under $10 for 120), and some silicone lubricant.

I also want to get a dank keyboard to plug to my old thinkpad / microATX Linux station.
I was thinking to get a HHKB. Recommendations for the keycaps?
>>
>>56964683
Eventually you'll get used to it, but it sounds like you should have gone for black switches. Rubber domes have an actuation force of around ~80g. Cherry reds have half of that. Blacks are a bit heavier at 60g. Linear greys are even heavier at 80g of force similar to rubber domes. There are also tactile and clicky switches but if you like linear switches then check some of these out just fill the filters at the top and buy what you want:
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/search.php?keyword=&brand=&switch=4&size=&led=&capmat=&capprint=&model=&availability=&show_kb=off&show_kb=on&show_acc=off&show_acc=on

Ah, so that's why.
I dunno, don't want to buy another keyboard right now. I like that I'm able to press keys faster but right now I keep making mistakes while typing all the time and press shit when resting my fingers. I guess I'll get used to it.

I have no fucking idea why they sent me a british version though, I live in the yuropean shithole of Grease and bought it from a local seller. I guess that's a minor problem so whatever.

Also, the wrist rest on this thing feels fucking amazing. Feels soft and smooth but it's hard, don't know how to describe it.

Cherry tactile switches are pretty underwhelming. I wish they would come up with a better design. All the good switches had their patents expire, so I wonder why cherry wont take some inspiration from them and give us proper tactile feedback
>>
is topre tactile

Topre is just a fancy rubber dome (pic related), and rubber domes are already tactile. So to answer your question yes they are tactile

about to buy my frist mechanical keyboard thinking about this one what do you think >

Only if you don't mind the inconsistent click of mx whites.
>>
Best tenkeyless backlit mechanical keyboard mkg?

I want real backlight illuminating letter/number on key, not just shining out the back of caps like most I've found do.

Used for typing almost exclusively, I think brown is best switch?
>>
>>56973664
can you recomend me one then ?
>>
>>56973710
If you want a heavier clicky switch, mx greens would work. Or matias clicky switches.
>>
>>56951918
I used to be like you thinking full size was best. But It's no fun having your mouse movement stopped at a critical moment by hitting the edge of your keyboard. I have learned my lesson and gotten a keyboard with the number pad and arrow keys cut off.
>>
>>56973463
>>56973504

I just said fuck it and got a KBP V80 with Matias switches. Only buckling springs have better tactility than Alps and you can't get those in 80% with NKRO without spending a fortune on one of those custom Model Fs with weird cases/layouts.

first mechanical keyboard and from what I understand its like this

Blue switch for typing
Red switch for gaming
Brown switch is in between

I think im going for brown and this keyboard what do you think ?
>>
>>56973684
There is no such thing as "best" since everyone plays different games.
Since you didn't give me a budget I'll assume its in the 80-100 dollar range.
I'd say go for the E-element TKL version

where can I get topre pbt spacebars that aren't horrible quality stuff from aliexpress?

Hello Dante. If you do go for browns you might be a bit disappointed with their tactile feedback.

Maybe go for cherry clears?

>Get standard bottom row board
>Check out included ABS for the first 3 months-ish
>See if they look shiny / more slippery
>Decide if PBT is necessary

This is my advice. Although not all ABS caps are so bad. I kept the ABS caps on my Magicforce 68 because they're quieter and feel like PBT in texture (not in thickness though). However the ABS caps I've gotten with Cooler Master boards have pretty consistently felt like shit.
>>

so what would you recomend ?

>>56974381
Any of these keyboards

The tactility of MX browns is really meh and just isn't distinct enough to help you feel the actuation point like it's supposed to.

Instead of going for a "middle ground," if you don't want blues because they make high pitched clicking noises, you may as well just get linear switches like reds because they'll feel nicer to type on. You could also try clears. They have heavier springs requiring more force to push and the tactility is stronger than on browns, though still not great.

That or get an entirely different type of switch that actually is tactile, like Alps or buckling springs.
>>
>>56974504
this will be primarly a gaming computer so i dont know what to go for
>>
>>56974504
I wouldn't recommend Alps or Buckling springs since he wants to get those edgy key caps
>>
>>56974523
Thing is no matter what they say about cherry reds, there isn't actually a "gaming" switch and it's all preference.
Do you want the switch to click when it actuates, or stay quiet?
(non-clicky switches will still go thock if you bottom them out though)
Do you want tactile feedback when the switch actuates before it bottoms out?
Are you a light or heavy typer?
(by way of comparison, if you're used to rubber domes they're much heavier than light switches like cherry reds)

Excited, my first mechanical keyboard is arriving tomorrow.
>>
>>56975085
My one gripe with DAS is that they lowered the build quality on their newer keyboards, while still keeping the same price. They are still good keyboards and nothing is wrong with them, but personally I don't support companies that do that
>>
>>56975118
Definitely a great board for its price. It has a fair bit of weight and the popout feet have nice rubber padding. The switches rest on a metal surface and are as loud as buckling springs. It seems the only part they skimped out on were the keycaps.
>>
>>56974147
yes, but only because of those godawful keycaps. change em and you'll have something that looks Decent

Unicomp Customizer
>>
>>56973269
I was looking for a bucking spring independent numpad. Does such a thing exist? In fact, does anybody make buckling spring stuff currently aside from Unicomp (and that one project with the Model Fs)?
>>
>>56968719
>>56968892
you have to actively be putting force down. I use Gateron Clears (35g) and resting my entire hand across my keyboard does not actuate anything.
>>
>>56976741

No and no.

Shame, really. The patent's expired so it's open season for any capacitive buckling spring chinkboards.

DSA keycaps look really weird desu

I'm curious, what's the appeal of 40% keyboards? How can they at all be efficient to type on?

it's less efficient, and I don't know how anyone could pretend it wasn't, but they aren't without their uses.

Lower sensitivity is better for fps bro. That means larger arm movements.

So I have a two part question for you gents-
preface- I'm building out a keyboard, 60% with a GH60. I have the keyswitches already, board should be here shortly, and then the plate whenever the fuck china and usps decide to give me my shit.

I just read on some forum that plate mount switches would require me to desolder every switch to swap a switch out if it's defective- that sounds odd, because I was under the impression that the plate sits between the switch and the PCB so to speak. If this were the case I should just be able to desolder the single switch means it goes in over the plate, correct?

Secondly, reading up on plate mount and pcb mount, I've read multiple places that the "disadvantage" of PCB mount is that it's required to solder the switches, which implies that if you go the PCB mount route you don't need to solder the switches in place, is this true? if so that sounds very prone to errors...

Guy with the k70 lux red here.
I'm worried about the LEDs.
Some anon said the lux fixed the problems but you never know.

I leave my pc on all the time, should I turn off the LEDs before I go to bed? Will that help keep them alive?
