That might be why he listed it as closed source software, and listed Chromium as the alternative. And he's correct, Chromium is superior. Firefox is my preferred browser, but I could switch to Chromium and be completely satisfied if I had to. In fact I do use it on OpenBSD because OpenBSD's version of Firefox is kind of fucked. Or at least it was last time I tried it, which has been a couple years I think.

>No nigga
It's debatable. It's not difficult to find 3Ds Max users who consider Blender on par, or better than 3Ds Max. That's not my opinion, I'm just saying that there are those who do hold that very opinion. Blender compares more favorably with it, than it does with Maya.
With 3Ds Max it's not uncommon to find people using it simply because it's what their employer requires, and not because they like it. It's not uncommon to hear them complain about how much they hate it. With Maya, people are also usually using it because it's what their boss tells them to use, but they generally do have a high opinion of it too. Basically you'll find many more 3Ds Max users who'd use something else completely if given the choice, whereas Maya users would for the most part probably stick to Maya. And it's not because Maya is better. Neither is better. Both have their own strengths and weaknesses, and usually you'll find one being used in areas that the other is considered weak. Both are standards for a reason.
There are also people who really don't care one way or another. It's just software. The concepts and principles of 3D graphics design are the same regardless of what software you use to do it. It's like programming--once you learn to program learning another language is a trivial matter.
>>56945231

No.
I support the use of Kirita and MediBang Paint Pro, and prefer Corell painter over Photoshop, but Photoshop is still better.
Photoshop doesn't get the weird halo effect when painting over something like gimp (used-to haven't used it in a while) can paint directly on a 3d model and is generally more fun /natural to use and less cumbersome.
Then it has plugins like quixel to go further on the 3d aspect.
Anyways to go any further goes way to far into technical stuff; for sketching or consepting, krita is good light and heading in a neat direction.
MediBang Paint Pro seems to work better than fucking sketchbook pro if you can only use a toch-ey tablet at the moment.
I'll go back to my corner now.

Not him, but I am an OpenBSD user. I'm also a Linux user. GNU isn't so much garbage, as it is a bunch of useful (but far from perfect) shit, that has a bunch of unnecessary political baggage tacked onto it. Cooperation and sharing shouldn't be such a huge fucking drama show. It's counter-productive. It's probably why Linux hasn't, and might never replace Windows as the standard desktop OS. Everyone's too busy shouting each other down, and trying to undermine each other every step of the way, to make it happen.
The BSDs aren't without drama either, but it's nothing compared to the world of Linux development. The main problem with the BSDs is lack of interest, but that seems to be changing. More and more people are trying one or more of them out, and finding that they like them.
And for what it's worth, my political leanings are generally to the left, albeit the older I get the more a-political I become. It's not that I disagree with Stallman and all the GNU cultists, it's that I don't feel any need to cram my views down the throats of other people. I don't believe that I know best for everyone else, or that my views are perfect and infallible. Other people don't hold views different from my own just to spite me. I despise right wing extremist dipshits who think than anyone who disagrees with them is their bitter enemy. I refuse to become like that myself, and thus I despise leftist extremists dipshits who do.

Gimp's problem is it's shitty UI. Photoshop is just easier to learn, and once you do, it's less awkward to use. Gimp is getting better as far as functionality and quality goes, but it needs a complete UI overhaul.
I used to use Gimp over PS though. The only reason I don't now is because I find Krita + Inkscape to better suit my needs. Krita's UI has been criticized for the same reason Gimp's has, but here's the difference: the Krita devs actually work closely with their users (mainly artists) and try to give them what they would like out of it. Over time I think that it will end up fixing that, and becoming a serious competitor to PS, whereas Gimp is going to remain Gimp because the devs know more about what users want/need than the users themselves do.
Inkscape on the other hand is nice to use imo, and I like working with vector graphics over raster graphics whenever possible. Unfortunately digital photos work more in line with how raster graphics do, and that's why Krita is better suited for photo editing, even if that's not it's primary goal.
And no, I'm not saying that Krita is better at that than Gimp. For now, Gimp is the better choice there. I just don't think it will remain so in the coming years.
>>56946780
>Gimp's problem is it's shitty UI.
even a bigger problem is how it behaves. it behaves differently than any other image editor. even the shortcuts are all different.
I tried GIMP few times and rage quit after trying to do simple background removal of a PNG.
I now use Pinta. Pinta works much better but it's still buggy shit.

That's the BIGGEST problem most of these Free software's have, you're making tools for artists not programmers, and the usage goes further than what they're usually doing to test it out themselves.
Think about it, how bad would a text editor feel to a hardcore programmer if only artists designed it.
