Just a warning to /R9 380/ bros upgrade to 6.9.2hotfix before upgrading to skylake i7 6700k cpu..

Get the igpu updated first before anything else because I got some error that took me 4 hours to fix.

I just realized that video card driver errors in windows 10 are super-hard to fix.

also delaying installing 32 gb because the idoit that sold the last 16GB, forgot my black heat spreaders.

Still can't get the internal card reader to work.

Working on a third build right now for HTPC.

Waiting for my father-in-law to swap my old athlon x2 5000+ for his 950+ x4

My celeron on this second build is giving me the weirdest errors and video noise in Dune 2000 its also not playing intro videos for C&C gold.

I've discovered that because my ECS motherboard has 4 mounting holes for coolers instead of two, I can actually install AM2/3/+ coolers on it

well, that's not bad looking. anyway, I threw that thing together as a system to quickly test parts from materials I had in my garage, and I wanted to be able to quickly disassemble it if needed. that's why it looks rather crude and why it's being held together by bolts. I have plans to build an improved version later.

The case is not bad. Would recommend 2 140s for the front rather than the 200m and i have to remove the front panel to get decent air flow. Dosent look bad with the front panel off though. oh and youll need to get a fan spillter or hub to power the fans due few 3/4 pins spots on the motherboard

its a board, not much to say about it
no cpu 4 pin but you can still overclock on it to the standard 2.4ghz with no issues
UEFI layout is nice
if youre using VGA and not HDMI the vga stabilizing screws make it hard to plug in large connectors into the USB 3.0 ports on the IO, its a bit cramped

New build

Doing cable management on my PC this weekend, p new to this stuff. Any recommendations? I have zip ties, screws, and a screwdriver along with a mobo mat.

on AM1 25w APU's, absolutely nothing

for bigger stuff a 4 pin is needed, i think at 50w its recommended and some boards cant route cpu power through the 24 pin anyway

but im running an overclocked 5350, a 750ti pci power only on the 24 pin and its doing just fine even at max load

not really its a good idea but very hard work and you need tools , back in the bad old days of computing alot of us modded our own cases.

just you have to hack it apart with tools because none of the water cooling pieces will fit and dill holes and the like. its not impossible to make a water block but its a pain to make a fan holes etc

with my second guts you where talking about only have 90mm and 45mm fan mounts
90mm rear
and one in the drive bay 45mm
I also had to rewire the HDD LED's and Power LED

I was going to go passive and i think that is the most piratical for two reaons

1. these old cases don't disprise sound very well.
2.these cases are generally cooler because all heavy tin based this very bad static grounding hence fan nose.

you can reduce this by pipe/pumping washers
on your fans and get rubber mounts but cannot be added to cpu fan. etc

foam is another but its risky because of heat issues.

How's the cooler working out on the 390? When I took my Asus 290 apart, I realized that the thermal paste looked like dry chewing gum, the heatsink was scratched and only 3 out of 5 pipes were actually making contact. That did explain the noise levels though...

desu asus's dcu2 was atrocious. pic related. and yes the tim was gummy.
the nzxt kraken + h105 is legit af though. in norcal summer with 17% overclock (1,170mhz) it never got over 50c
vram cooling is the only concern, and i would 100% strongly recommend some mini heatsinks for it. as i had some laying around. it made a huge difference
