Is the pen testing / csci job market going to be affected at all by this show?

I've already seen tons of skids getting kali even though they don't even know how to use it

what these shows are is like what csi is to actual crime scene investigators (although thats maybe more computer forensics not pentesting)

either way if you're good at it and like it it's easy to be successful

if you're gonna do it for the money and not care about the product being delivered do the world a favor and just be a web dev

I've done a lot of research. And it seems you really have to be a jack of all trades. A good place to look is at all the past high-level CTF events. If you can be a boss at those, then you stand a good shot.

But like you said, for every 'test' you have to do a detailed write-up. It's more than just fun and games. Also, you don't just 'become' a pentester. It's a role that you eventually will reach. First you're just a simple vuln scanner or analyst doing mostly write ups. Eventually you work your way up. But like I said, you need to master a lot first. Basically everything. Real pentesters use kali. But what separates a skid from a real one besides what I mentioned is the ability to write your own scripts and programs depending on ones needs.

I have yet to do much coding outside of my 2 year degree of front end web stuff but I have a passion for this stuff I developed in the last year and I have an opportunity to go back to school. I'm still young. Fuck it, why not.
