Will I die from a dirt cheap soldering station?

I'll leave this one to Big Clive.
>>
It would be extremely painful.

Are you actually looking to buy a soldering iron though or is this just a meta thread.
The cheapest stuff is not only a pain in the ass to use but also often dangerous.
>>
Prob, but from electrocution
>>
>>56938551
This.

Recently bought a hakko because can't be fucked to deal with the hassle any more.

With cheapshit ones the tip seem to deteriorate after a while. I can't imagine they're supposed to do that.
>>
pucker up and buy Tenma https://www.amazon.com/Tenma-21-10115-Compact-Digital-Soldering/dp/B008BW9LX6

Have same station in work and works nicely. Thinking of getting one for myself because it's much cheaper then Weller and works almosta as well.
>>
I use a 3$ soldering iron from harbor freight all the time senpai, I usually unplug it once it gets magma hot

Cheap works.
If you ever want to leave this plane of existence, use a Tesla. They're more effective.
>>
>>56939113
if you're going to be doing soldering for anything more than a single repair or a few small projects, buy a hakko. Weller is a good alternative that's cheaper than hakko, but you can't beat the blue & gold.

the electronics store I work at has the 888 on sale occasionally for like $70. If you hunt around it's easy to get one in the $80 range that will be cheaper in the long run than cheap """""disposable""""" irons.
>>
>>56938474
Dirt cheap irons are dildos, my father tried a $10 one once, took ages to get hot enough to just barely melt solder, handle got super hot and it smelled bad.

Never a fucking gain.
He's currently using a no brand iron he bought back when the ussr existed, still works.
I've got a hakko at work, definitely worth the investment of you do any frequent soldering.
Gets hot quicker, has proper insulation, variable heats, replaceable heard, really all you need is there.

No. I have this kind of station, it costs like $10, and it's pretty much perfect for amateur use - as long as you're knowledgable enough to solder properly.

Never buy cheap.
I bought a $15 and an $18 iron from ace and Walmart respectively and they both couldn't even get hot enough to melt anything.

If you're just doing through hole, you don't even need a station. If you just buy an iron and then a cheap plastic stand you can get something better than a piece of shit station.

Something like this will do just fine. Lots of tips available, too. I've been using mine for years.

>>

What are the dual cables on one of those for? And the little side bit on it?
>>

I'll pass.
>>
>>56938495
I love Big Clive.

No gay.
>>
>>56939813
That iron looks pretty good. Can someone give me a good reason not to buy the Tenma?

I'll just be using it for the odd mad scientist project, it won't be used often.
>>
>>56948194
>he doesn't want to melt lead efficiently

It's like you prefer being inferior.
>>
>>56938474
It's ok when you don't need it that frequently. they often have not enough power to solder larger things and the cheap solderingtips are really bad. I recommend Weller, they make great products.
>>
>>56948653
But damn though, even their most basic irons cost a bundle or three.
>>
Just get a cheap Hakko 936 clone
>>
>>56948677
You buy that thing once in your life not like the cheap ones. I use my dads Weller soldering Iron and it's over 25 years old.

Is there a desoldering station with one of those pumps that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Hah, awesome. That's a magnet he's using to hold everything together right?

Which weller soldering station would be the best for a noob?
>>
>>56950957
None, it's a waste of money.
>>
>>56951015
I intend to use it forever though. My first iron will be a $10 job, and if I decide I want to keep on soldering things, I'll upgrade to a weller.
>>

Oh god, don't.
Shell out 20$ for a 936d, you will never need anything more for hobby work.

They are. which is why they're replaceable.

Cheap ones are best. The blue one on Amazon for $15 best soldering iron I've ever used
>>
>>56948592
>>56939485 here, only downside i've found in this Tenma is the solder heads screw that holds the tip in place, loosens abit from time to time, but if just screwed tightly it wont loosen up so often.

Hakko FX-600. $40 but has replaceable tips that you can use if you upgrade to a Hakko station
>>
>>56952933
What are you trying to say? A new Weller WTCPT is under $200 new.
>>
>>56953005
Im saying you'd be better off buying a brand new Hakko then using that piece of shit Weller.
