How would a /g/entooman prepare for a category 4 hurricane?
>>
1. Charge Thinkpad (Arch Linux installed ofc).
2 . Create physical media of all FOSS i have (incase of internet outage).
3 . Figure out a way to shitpost without wifi.
4 . Waterproof my 1tb anime drive.
5 . Setup an online server vm with automatic shitposting scripts before internet goes down.

Move to Seattle

>not living in a plywood shack in the swamp
>>
does anyone have a real answer? Because I need to know too.
>>
>>56937575
Step 1 - Move to an area that isn't constantly bombarded with hurricanes

There is no step 2
>>
>>56938161
Just follow an /edc/ thread. They have everything they need to survive for 3 or 4 days, easily.
>>
>>56938211
Step 0: already live somewhere like that
Step 1: there is no step 1, you don't have to actually do anything

>>
>>56938566
exactly. /g/ would be the best board to ask because we never go outside. we have the best knowledge on how to stay comfy and safe without ever going outside for food, and entertaining ourselves for days in shelter from the massive category 4 hurricane
>>
>>56937575
Pack my laptop and the rest of my valuables, drive up to the mountains for a week's vacation at my cousin's house. Collect insurance on my rekt home. Move somewhere without holyshiticanes.
>>
Download /g/ recommended books (SICP, K&R C book, etc) and do the exercises in them.
Download a bunch of movies, tv shows, anime, etc for when I'm bored

Figure out where to loot beer from.
Figure out which negros to set up to be blamed for it.
Buy some wood.

Have enough food for a couple of weeks and plenty of drinking water. Water is most important. Do not stock food you enjoy or you will eat it up when you are bored. Food is fuel, that is all. You don't need much. Stock ONLY food which does not require cooking or hydration. I eat straight from the can. Just go clean out the chili and bean section at the market. Dried fruit etc are good and keep you shitting.

Fill tub, plastic barrel, etc with water in your bathroom. Dip it out for washing, pour used water into 5 gallon pail to flush toilet. You shouldn't need more than washcloth facial cleanup for a couple of weeks unless you are manstruating.

Charge all rechargeable batteries. If you have any extra vehicle batteries, charge them too. I keep all my batteries in a large plastic industrial cart near my back door, but I'm a mechanic who collects motorcycles so I've many of them. I have a generator and have been through a few storms, but I don't use it. Batteries and cheap inverters and a JNC vehicle jump pack (good for MANY things besides starting vehicles) mean I can just veg out and sleep through most events.

The government gives out disaster aid monies. I failed to wait out the line after Hurricane Hugo but should have though I needed nothing. You might as well get your taxes back via FEMA. Otherwise they just go to bombs and hood rats.

You don't need ice. Nobody needs ice unless they are storing insulin or some shit. Don't waste time waiting on it.

Disasters are not bad if you have a calm mindset.

Floridian here. This is what I do:

>Not give a fuck because that shit ain't gonna do anything of note.

9/10 hurricanes evaporate when they hit the coast. If you live on the beach you might be fucked, otherwise who gives a shit. It might rain and the power might go out for an hour or two, big deal.

use my superior processing power to generate a reductive quantum forcefield to recursively disassemble the water particles on a molecular level, thus keeping my desktop in a state of hydrophobicity.
>>
Perform risk analysis based on water levels from past storms and secure the most expensive and essential equipment to be safe given a little worse than expected damage. Less essential and expensive stuff gets secured in less safe ways. All essential (and most non-essential but annoying to lose) data gets online backups in multiple locations far from the storm.

Have laptop ready with sufficient entertainment in the form of books, manuals, music, and videos and spare batteries.

Generator ready to go with enough gas for a week of light usage.

Candles and lanterns and plenty of board games and books.

Rent a U-HAUL and get the hell out of dodge.

humans were never intended to live in Florida, why do you think the Spanish never settled it in any large capacity while they owned it?

By living far enough inland that I don't ever have to worry about mother nature's ocean bullshit.

Ever look at a dewdrop on the tip of a leaf really close up? Sometimes you can see little bubbles of oxygen from the photosynthesis.
Trippy as fuck.

>>
>>56937575
If a hurricane was powerful enough to make it all the way to Colorado and still be category 4 then it deserves to kill me.
>>
>>56942632
Florida is larger by far than the Netherlands so land isn't worth investing in basements. There's room for lateral growth without that very expensive construction hassle. Acreage is often trivially cheap.
>>
>>56942834
FEMA direct aid. You have the interet. Use it. If your area is declared a disaster area you can score.
