This was all made by two professional CGI artists, although in their spare time. You'd need not only a good grasp of the software and a system powerful enough to actually manipulate the model, but knowledge of anatomy and the physical properties of materials.
It's amazing just how complex the rigging and skinning are, even taken alone, there are people who's full time job it is to just do these two things.
