I'm curious. Convince me why I should install Gentoo over Windows.
It's a meme.

I had the slightest feeling.
I'm sure most of anons saying "install gentoo" have not even tried to install gentoo. Maybe they install arch or something like that.
Portage is the best package manager around. Those that dismiss Gentoo as a meme will never live in the grace of use flags and masking. Your loss my sons.

>Why is Gentoo recommended here?
1. 4chan users are dicks
2. Gentoo is a distro that gives the user a lot of freedom in how it can be configured. This means that it also requires an above-average level of knowledge and familiarity with Linux.
3. 4chan users are trolls
4. While the install process is very well documented it is very error-prone when done by a first-time user.
5. 4chan users are assholes
6. To achieve 2., gentoo compiles _everything_. Hint: compiling LibreOffice every other week since somebody wrote a 2-line patch to install the documentation in a different directory can drive a man insane.

If you ever compiled Libreoffice, then please see a doctor, you need professional help.
libreoffice-bin exists for a reason.

>have problem with linux
>install gentoo
>learn a lot about linux in the process
>original problem is easy now
installing gentoo solves problems
Gentoo user here, it's nice. Then again I've used GNU/Linux for almost a decade

-"Install Gentoo" meme
-no installation wizard like those in fedora, opensuse, debian, ubuntu
-initial installation and compiling can take a day or more depending on packages you select, some have binary packages available
-maintenance is a pain
+you learn a LOT using it
+gentoo community was very knowledgeable and nice last time I checked a decade ago
+easy to tweak for more performance
