Does anyone who is involved with these old computers put them to use browsing some BBSes? Do you actually chat with people on them? Is there such a thing as a collector's BBS? If there isn't there should be.

I can't in it's current state. You won't believe how hard it was to transfer that demo and get it working.

Have you heard of telehack? It's not a bbs though, it's a wargaming simulation of the early internet.

I used to be on a bbs created by some anon over at (4*2)chan. But I don't know if it still exists.

I also have an account on fozztexx's level29 bbs, but I don't visit much.

btw how were you able to change the background wallpaper? (for future reference)
>>
>>56930209
You mean the normal wallpaper or the background of the screen when you drag it down?

Normal wallpaper is under Prefs/WBPattern, you have to select if it's a pattern or a picture.
The black background of the screen itself is bblank.
>>
>>56930254
ahh, I remember seeing that. (I just don't have any pictures on it at the moment). Thanks
>>
>>56930294
You know, you're running WB3.1, then you know you can read DD 720KB DOS floppies out of the box, just go to Storage/DOSDrivers and look for PC0, double click that and insert a 720KB DOS floppy with your stuff on it, it will pop up on your Workbench, you have to wait a second or two after the first icon pops up, might show it as a corrupt icon, but then another one pops up with a DOS label.

If it's not under Storage/DOSDrivers, it might be already under Devs/DOSDrivers, then it should work out of the box.
>>
>>56930393
Yeah, that's how I transferred the boing ball demo, thanks anyway tho
>>
>Original Content is encouraged
But that's just it, there isn't any. The hardware doesn't change and therefore the pictures don't. That's why it's the same 10-15 pictures over and over again and just "cool pic" as in response. The only thing you can even call OC in these threads is unique circlejerking. They aren't "used" for anything, they just sit there and accumulate pictures taken and progressively more dried cum.

I only have the one G4, and no Firewire cable. I'm sure it works but its not really something I want to invest money in. Least not now, focusing on my new build.

I keep getting iBook and Powerbook confused as well. Only difference seems to be PowerBooks can actually do shit and iBooks can't.

it's still got a current web browser, free software packages through tigerbrew, a nice *nix environment overall and modern-enough commercial staples like Office 2k8 for example, wouldn't really discount it based on version numbers alone, there's still plenty of shit you can do with 10.4

OS 9 is pretty cool too but it feels like I'd run it on something older, but mostly due to autism since running such an old-looking OS on a sleek g4-era system is kind of aesthetically triggering and classic mode is a thing anyway

That picture is cool, I'm guessing you had to write your own program to put that picture on the screen.

I did something like that myself on the BBC Micro. I wrote a BASIC program that drew pictures on the screen (converted from .bmp files on my PC) in graphics mode 1 (resolution 320x256, 4 colours). The program is probably very inefficient and it takes about 20 minutes or something to draw a picture on the screen, but it does work.
>>
>>56941731
least the R5K sounds cool under the hood, but do the extensions really make a difference on the O2 like they did on the Indy?

as far as audio goes, for some reason I always felt my Indigo2 made a pretty good recording box for stealing songs off of streaming services to burn CDs for my car changer, maybe it's just the sheer novelty of it, or my sound system is too shit to meaningfully show any introduced interference

It's actually a picture viewer that takes an HGR file and binary-loads it into memory, sets video mode to HGR, and pokes a memory location that lets it take up the whole screen (usually it has 3 text lines at the bottom).

The HGR images are generated with a separate piece of software on my PC (vnIIc)

Here, to help you out, if you can't bother with Amiga Forever or wait while it download, this is a pack with WinUAE and ROM and Workbench floppy. Just 10MB, it's the bare bones you need to watch those furry animations.

Once you unzip if and start WinUAE for the first time, first thing you have to do is go to Paths on the left side and then you should see a dropdown menu with with option "WinUAE default (EXE directory)" select that and click "Reset to defaults" (Just a one time thing when you first run it) after that you can go to Configurations on the left and select "Barebones" and click "Load" and then you can click start and you're in Workbench 2.1.

Ask if you need help with the animations.

I'm just bored, it's just the executable straight from winuae.net and a ROM and floppy image from my own catalog.
