Only problem with hosts file blocking is that there's no simple subscription list to continue it, and if there were it would be horrifyingly exploitable.

Also a large number of things can be done without 3rd party requests (where adblocks traditionally intervene) due to the way javascript events work. Popups/popunders are still real in 2016 and *block won't protect you.

Get noscript, get umatrix. You'll probly still need something in the future to filter events.

Why don't we create a set of rules, ethics, and standards for unobtrisive adds that don't give people viruses or privacy issues. Create a whitelist for all adds that follow the rules and ban block/blacklist everyone else. Seriously, we have real power to effect internet policy here with controlling add revenues. Lets use it to make the internet a better place.

Requestpolicy devs have been gone for forever, there was requestpolicy continued but it was mostly just emergency patches to keep up with firefox releases.

No e10s support even attempted. umatrix is really nice and now that the chrome webextensions api works in fuckfox, it's pretty great.

Doesn't do the passive protections noscript does though.

Also the javascript stuff affects more than JUST popup/popunder, but it's disgusting all around.
