What's a good alternative to Actual Multiple Monitors? Ideally I want some simple light freeware that allows me to have multiple taskbars and different monitor backgrounds.

Standard Windows 8.1 is ass. Any suggestions?

Somebody has got to have a recommendation.

i recommend actual multiple monitors or linux which has that shit built into the X server.

Ultramon does this for me on Windows 7. No idea how it works on 8. Trialware, IIRC.

I use winsplit revolution to have keyboard shortcuts for various window sizes and positions. Makes Windows into almost a tiling manager. Also works for me on 7, no idea about 8. No longer under development. Freeware, I think.

I also recommend actually getting multiple monitors. I have six, across two machines. It's nice, I can't imagine going back to one.

I know everyone is going to tell me to fuck off for saying it, but "muh games." I know little to nothing about linux. Is it possible to get the benefits of linux without switching fully into it?

Short answer: no
Long: you would need to know alot about how linux works and have the right cpu but yes.
>>

I'm a faggot for doing so but I texted my mom because she works with computers. I asked how I would go about switching to linux and she straight up said, "don't mess around with that you'll screw up your computer, you would need to partition your drive to do so." Where's a good jumping point for shit like this?

hope youre still here, OP. Windows 10 has virtual desktops built in which work great but the wallpaper doesnt change

i used VirtuaWin before windows 10 came out and iirc had different backgrounds for the desktops and worked fairly well although it doesn't feel as seemless as win10's VDs

i found it and winsplit (>>56929327) through nanami tan dot info

hope this helps

there is no hope for you

More complicated than CPU. VT-d compat is motherboard-dependent too.

Backup anything you don't want to lose, or make an image of your disk before beginning. I recommend trying PCLinuxOS as your first distro. If your hardware is respectable go with KDE otherwise download the MATE desktop. PCLinuxOS is distributed as a live CD so you can try it before installing. Just keep in mind that a live CD is slower than an installed OS. Installation instructions are here:

Easiest way to learn is to just dive in with the expectation that you will fuck up and have to reinstall.

Try out some stuff in a virtual machine. You won't get all the same stuff as if you installed it natively but you'll have some idea what you're doing if you eventually decide to switch

Windows 8 has built in multi monitor taskbars and separate monitor wallpapers.
>>
*Cough* i3wm on a decent OS

Not freeware, but of course you can find it elsewhere, but DisplayFusion is nice.

Good multi-monitor wallpaper manager and second taskbar is nice as it includes clock and notification thing. It can be a bit fineky sometimes, but otherwise is pretty solid.

Windows 10 has this built in.

Get Windows 10

install arch with i3
