Holy shit guys! why didnt you tell me about the cinnamon desktop until now? all I see is gnome shell, ubuntu, kde and xfce desktops posted here everytime but never cinnamon.

Cinnamon is like gnome 2 on steroids.

It might need some tweaking here and there but it works amazingly well.

I am quite impressed and happy with it.

Customization is impressive, you can download themes and applets directly from the settings menu.

Panel applets are pretty cool.

It still need some improvement but I like where this project is going.

Have a go a try it, you wont look back,

Is anyone else triggered by the pop up arrows on the panel items? Like when you open up the application menu and it hovers over the panel with a tiny arrow pointing at it. Like seriously?

Because Cinnamon is just cucked MATE, overloaded with crappy pseudoKDE effects and more wasted space on oversized bezels.

In my eyes cinnamon is just a worse kde with all the downsides its gnome3 forking brought with it. Shitty compositor performance, panel usage and manipulation is non existent and nemo is just a shitty dolphin wannabe with almost none of its features, should have guessed this since it's just a fork of ancient nautiuls like everything else they forked.

4/10, see me after class.

I don't like cinnamon. Half the applets don't work well or require a specific version. That irks me quite a bit because I personally think the start menu is shit.

Using KDE is like walking through a hoarder's house to find one specific thing you're looking for.

Gnome is like a big empty room with the one thing you're looking for and nothing else.

>Using KDE is like walking through a hoarder's house to find one specific thing you're looking for.
After just trying plasma 5, this is fucking truth.

There's literally four different menu WIDGETS to open the menu. FOUR DIFFERENT FUCKING MENU WIDGETS TO DO THE SAME FUCKING THING. It's like a collection of ideas and no one wanted to say "that one", they just decided to add all of them.
>>
>>56925734
I only see two, one for wasting space and mouse movement and one for normal menu with categories. Only one of them is actually on the desktop and the other is an alternative you can select in edit mode. cinnamon only has one that takes almost five seconds to open because they never heard of cache and the only alternative sits broken in the extension menu and doesn't work because the dev has jumped ship.
>>
>>56925717
I'm fucking blind. I checked it twice to make sure I wasn't missing something.
Cheers.

but it's a bad choice
>>
>>56925806
>doesn't work because the dev has jumped ship
my biggest problem with cinnamon right here

so many neat looking extensions that just don't work on the newer versions
>>
>>56925954
you're saying the fact that KDE gives you choice out of the box of how you want your launcher to look and behave is bad
>>
>>56925954
For you. Apart form the colors vanilla kde looks exactly the fucking same as cinnamon. What the hell gets you guys so confused? You can't even change the panel position in cinnamon for fucks sake, you should feel right at home.
>>
has cinnamon gotten proper support for multi monitor panels yet?
>>
>>56925806
>>56925961
git version runs a little better, but yeah, the thing is kinda a mess. It's a shame, because it's probably the closest I can get to a win8 style menu, since everyone hates it and will never make one for linux (despite gnome being like a awkward hard to use obfuscated version of it).
>>
>>56923180
does it have a simle but working tiling plugin?
>>
>>56925986
>You can't even change the panel position in cinnamon for fucks sake, you should feel right at home.
I always keep the panel on top (default is bottom), remove the window items and add a hideable icon dock at the bottom for those. That way the panel is only for clock and menu and volume and stuff. I don't know why you thought the panel position couldn't be changed, maybe you just hoped it was true to elevate another DE choise higher. You are wrong of course.
>>
>>56926315
Because they just announced that the next version will be able to have the panels on the side. So no telling the panel to be "top" or "sideway" isn't moving the panel, call me when you can drag the shit out of it.
On second though, please don't I will still be disappointed at the lacklustre window management (can't even force window size and position of arbitrary windows) and shitty file management.

>the screen sides are for plebs, it must be right here and I refuse to use a DE that doesn't let me do it right from the menu
This is you btw
>>
>>56923305

it looks really neat.
Just reinstalled arch and this time trying out cinnamon. What icons are those? and theme?
>>
Plasma is superior.
>>
>>56923180
>Holy shit guys! why didnt you tell me about the cinnamon desktop until now?

Because there's no reason to use it over Plasma unless you're trying to emulate the Windows 2000 look?

It's basically GNOME 3 but usable

Thanks, I do enjoy using a computer that was made in the last 10 years so I don't have to run Cinnamon
