init: the first program
when the machine starts, it goes like this;
1. bios runs the bootloader
2. bootloader loads and runs the kernel
3. kernel runs init
4. init runs everything else

irssi is an IRC client.

>being too lazy to work without a terminal

I just edit and rebuild init directly to spawn the process I want, then reboot my system. Much less bloat than having to install a full terminal

A good middle ground between this and using a terminal is just using BSD's init scripts to run the applications you want before rebooting. It's still more bloated but doesn't require recompiling anything before you reboot.
