Yep, basically. If they don't want to provide their info/entertainment for free, or even in a form that isn't 90% adds and/or made up of 10+ pages with a paragraph on each page, then I guarantee someone else out there will. It would cut down on all the clutter you find when trying to search for a simple "how to" topic. Instead of getting a bunch of paginated websites, you'd instead get a few high quality documents written by people who care enough about the topic to do it for free.

I hate to say it, but everything is pointing in that direction. Large sites that specialize in a certain form of entertainment/service(s) are near impossible to compete with at this point given their control of and collusion with data centers and exchange points. Youtube, Facebook/Twitter, Google, Wikipedia, Big News (basically owned by Monsanto and big oil). All of these sites have a monopoly on their various forms of content, and it is almost a point where they can set up paywalls, or at least "premium service" walls (basically faster speeds), without losing users. So when you go to x service provider, choosing your internet plan will also come with choosing your "channels", just like modern tv.

The ads always win.

Yeah I know, obviously I don't like it, but it doesn't excuse why we allow this shit. Phoneposters constantly posting pictures directly from their phones, unconverted, so we end up with tons of images hosted on the site that are in enormous resolutions, but are not high quality by any means. I would argue /wsg/ and images like that are the two biggest sources of storage use on 4chan.

You have no idea how anti-adblock systems work, do you? They are not this sophisticated. The site is unusable by default. Then a script which is disguised as advertisement unfucks the site. Adblockers block the script and thus the site stays unusable for you.
