A relative of mine designs the "as seen on tv" stuff you see on tv

He has some interesting stories about working with Chinese manufacturers.

whats the chinkiest chink a chink has chinked your relative with.
>>
>>56845108
Well, it's been a while since I've talked to him, but he says that it's sometimes quite pathetic how they turn your design into a product

Like you send the Chinese a sample of whatever you want to make, and then they send you back a sample of how *they* will make it. But that's their prototype for how they THINK they will make it

So you write up the contract.... and once the units start shipping, you recoil in terror at how they ACTUALLY produced it

Could you recommend me some good chink headphones?
Had Piston v3 (youth and normal ones) and they stopped worked within months.
>>
>>56845225
He's done some wacky things. Shoes with ears, for one

But hey, when you get 1¢ per unit sold, and they manufacture 700,000 units, it's a pretty good business to be in
>>
>>56845285
> and they stopped worked within months
Due to mechanical stress? How'd it happen? What do you think is the improvement you're looking for...?

The Xiaomeme are already some of the more mechanically sturdy IEM though...
>>
>>56844798
Is it bad that I actually think that's a good idea?
>>
>>56845311
Just dunno, they stopped making noise.
The improvement I want is that they actually last half a year at least.
I like bass too.
>>
>>56845285
do you want full size or iem like your pistons?
if IEM:
Senfer UES [recently csg iem meme]
they're pricier than most other chink IEMs, but theyre absolutely worth the money.
they use the same cable mechanism as Shure IEMs, so you can replace the cable [which is almost always what goes bad in IEMs
theyre not niggerbass tier so they'll probably suit your tastes with the piston v3

whats your budget if not IEM?
>>
>>56845406
IEMs are better for me, portability mostly.
30eurobucks would be the max, I don't quite like those Senfer.
>>
>>56845441
why don't you like the senfer?

you also might want to ask for suggestions on /hpg/
>>
>>56845448
I don't like that removable cable thingie. Also the design.
After having spent 30 on the pistons a while ago I am a little afraid of spending that much if they're gonna last 2 months.
>>
>>56845479
why don't you like the removable cable? it'd help the headphones not fucking die. that's the whole point. instead of buying entirely new iems, you just buy a new cable for like ~8 dollars

what about the design don't you like?

I have the SDY-019. It has worked since I got it like 1-2 years ago. I never tried the other one(s) including that probably newer one that looks ruggedized / is waterproof.

Sound quality isn't really different from the Xiaomi as far as I can tell. It's fine for a small portable speaker. [I haven't done any particularly test series with sounds across the frequency spectrum or anything.]

Radio reception is better than on most other bar-type speakers, but not quite as good as on radios with a big antenna. Still, it does the job here whereas other box / bar type radios had poor reception, so it's the easy, compact all in one speaker for me.

The only downside to me is that it seems there is some kind of parasitic power drain in the device. It can discharge on its own over a period of some weeks. Not that this is a huge deal with the pretty fast charging battery, but still, I think it's something the Xiaomi doesn't do.
>>
>>56846615
Why wouldn't it? It says so right in the description, and it's not like GBE is expensive in a cheap but workable chipset...

I'll however point out 'tis cheaper on aliexpress:

>>

Nah, not easily. Suspend-to-ram never mind suspend-to-disk shouldn't draw much power.

Not sure how fast the battery drains when it's idle, but powered on with the screen off though, that might have drained it.

Either way, red light = drained or faulty battery. Usually drained. Just charge for a moment. Some Xiaomi smartphones also won't let you turn them on until the battery voltage raises a little.

>>
>>56847804

Plugged it in, red led blinking but not turning on.

Starting to panic
>>
>>56847894
Let it charge for some minutes.

If that doesn't work (it should) try long pressing power for hard reset ant then boot with power+vol up, charge there.
>>
>>56847894
If the battery was fully drained it will take a short while to reach a power level that can boot the tablet.

Had this on a Moto G3 once. Battery was so drained that a red light came on, even though this phone supposedly has no notification led...

Wait 20 mins and try to boot again.
>>
>>56847894
What they said. Even the PS Vita won't let you turn it on until it has charged sufficiently. A hell of a lot longer than you'd think, for that matter...
>>
>>56847894
mi pad 2 charges weird. It has to be on to charge so if it is completely drained you have to give it like 10 or 20 minutes before it will even indicate that it's charging. After that, you have to give it a wee bit more time and then you can boot it and play with it while it's charging.

run powercfg /batteryreport /output "c:\battery.html" and check the power log. If you have no idea what you're looking at, post it here.

Also, take it out of the case (if you have one) and make sure you don't charge it on your bed because they can overheat very easily while charging.

>>56847980
>>56847963

Yep, dem Uni-T are very good.

But actually, even that $2 multimeter I got just 'cause I was interested was actually rather useful.

Not sure if it's safe if some huge voltage spike happened, but heh, we don't really have these here.

>Anon is first to receive the Xiaomi VR headset, plans on reviewing it later

I bought the VR headset so I could check out what all the rage was. Overall, the headset is worth the money and way better than a Cardboard one, but Xiaomi could definitely improve someone things.

>Build Quality
Most of the body is made up of a hard foam with the zipper, lenses and clasps made out of plastic. The button on top feels like metal. Very well built.

>Strap system
A single piece, tri strap system. Uses Velcro to change the length of the straps, but the Velcro does not latch on very strong. Due to the way the strap pulls on the Velcro, they seem to stay in place properly.
The strap system feels like it's only holding on to the top of your head and is about to slip off. Only really a problem if you violently shake your head around. Also, if you shake your head hard, the headset bounces around on your face; kinda uncomfortable because of the hard foam.

>Comfort
The foam touching your face is hard but malleable-ish. It does not conform to your face, this means there are points of pressure applied to your face, rather than an even pressure achieved with soft foam. Xiaomi definitely should have put a soft foam on the part that touches your face. One advantage of the hard foam is that your headset can breath and keep cool.

>Experience
So my phone is old(Galaxy S3) so I can see all the pixels. I tried playing "Wizard Arcade" but my eyes quickly started to hurt. I had to focus really close to see the screen properly which quickly gave me a headache. Maybe I'll get used to it over time.
I can see outside the headset from the corner of my eyes. Another problem caused by the hard foam against your face.
The button on top feels good and works well. It works by pushing a rubber thing which touches the screen of your phone.

I'll be here a while, ask me any questions you got.
>>
>>56848726
By the way, the Chinese did get data hold, backlit displays and a lot more on $5-10 multimeters, and these seem popular on ali now. More so than the well-known Uni-T.

But I haven't tested any of these yet. It kinda depends on whether it can also hold on the first measured value or only immediately and all that. They might perhaps be a very good deal.

>>

So what's the filesystem used? Ext4? NTFS?

Or did you use something silly like exFAT or HFS+?
>>
yesterday I fell asleep and didn't reply to anon at >>56845033 about using a boost converter to charge a laptop from a car battery. Maybe you're watching this thread as well.
So here's the converter you'd need to pull it off http://s.aliexpress.com/ZZrYvua2
however adding a capacitor (another 1000uF one so it totals 2000uF) across the output is necessary. There will still be some high frequency spikes but your laptop's internal voltage regulators will deal with it. Add a charger plug suitable for your device and voila, laptop charger on the cheap.
>>
>>56848842
PS: Not every Android has NTFS support enabled either, you only have a good chance of getting it but not a guarantee.

The "native" filesystems on Android are more like ext4 and FAT32.
>>
>>56848838
It's not externally powered, but if the light is on I'm assuming it's getting enough power.

>>56848842
NTFS

It's a USB 3.0 HDD, it connects when I plug it into the USB ports on the back of my PC as opposed to my front ports.

What's the peak output of the step up ones?
I wanna build my own power bank.
>>56837182
Which ones would you recommend to step up from 3.7v to 5v?
>>
>>56848877
> NTFS
In general that should work, but I'm not gonna give a guarantee.

Try plugging it in and filesystem check it on Windows, cleanly unmount, and try again?

Get a root shell on Android to diagnose from the command line if it doesn't work, you can quickly find out if the drive wasn't recognized at all as a plugged in device or whether it was recognized and you can manually mount it or something. Basic Google or existing Linux knowledge provided, of course.
>>
>>56848923
THat's gonna be difficult considering I'm retarded, but I appreciate the help. I'll try finding out the solution through YouTube
>>
>>56848915
> I wanna build my own power bank.
> Which ones would you recommend to step up from 3.7v to 5v?
Not same anon, but i think Xiaomi just uses a TI BQ24195. Should be worth a consideration for this purpose.
>>
>>56848943
Good old "dmesg" or cat /proc/kmesg should probably tell you whether the device was plugged in and recognized as usb attached disk just now.

And then you kinda just proceed to "mount -o umask=000 -t ntfs /thatdevice /somewhere" and see if that works and gives you an accessible device in /somewhere or hates you over missing NTFS support or whatever.

At least that's how I'd start. [It's not the only method to go about diagnosing this by any means.]
>>
>>56848962
I would, but the xiaomi isn't significantly more efficient when pushing out 2A. I saw reviews and it only gets the 93% efficiency at 500mAh, this was on the older 10400mAh model iirc though

Did you get a customer support ticket in which they're asking you to shill for them?

Check out your "My Tickets" page in your profile, you can get a cool 900GB points for doing positive reviews of GB on a couple of sites.

Also, generally you get points for interactions with customer support - if one of your orders arrives with a scratch, bump, dead pixel etc. you can mention this to them.

Usually they'll offer around 50GB points as a solution, since the item still does its job so you can't claim a full refund

2 weeks ago i received my redmeme note 3 pro (3/32gb) and a pair of zircons,
The zircons came from china, and took 2.5 weeks to arrive(I live in Italy), they sound great (kinda bassy, but I like it) and the included eartips are the best I have ever tried.
The redmeme took 3 days to arrive since it was shipped from Europe ( I payed it 190 Yuros, instead of paying it 180 but having it shipped from China), the phone is great, it came with the global ROM and Google play already installed, it has a good design and feels kinda premium. Great performance (at least for now), the LTE works perfectly, battery life is good, the display is gorgeous and my favorite part is how customizable this phone is.
I definitely recommend both the phone and the iems

There are two questions, I asked if its worth it to upgrade from 7 to 8 AND how the 2g problem is caused, maybe the bug only appears on miui 8 or whatever.
I want to upgrade my fine working OS because maybe the new OS will work finer, is that such a hard concept for you?

I remember an Anon a couple of months ago that bought a deathadder and registered it in Razers site and everything, dunno if it was that one though.

Please do, mine i got from DX.com was shit. D-pad feels bad and reaction by presing the buttons is off. It was good for arcade games but you get killed in 3d multiplayer games like racing or shooting.

Most of them do if you want to change dpi and shit, yeah. You can still use them, but I think they default to some retardedly high dpi setting. I got an abyssus for the physical switches to not have to deal with that.
Ended up being a counterfeit so it was free. 450dpi setting is actually 1000ish, but otherwise it feels pretty identical to a genuine one.

I bought some Lepin, just a cheap set to test the waters. I'm very happy with it, there's a few very minor foibles but otherwise aside from the fact that it doesn't have LEGO stamped on the little blorps you'd have a hard time telling it apart from genuine Lego. Once my paycheque comes in I'm going to get the Cafe Corner and anonymously mail a picture of it to the people at Lego with a note that says "fuck you shit niggers and all your thieving kikery" and then we'll see who is the cool winning guy.

I've owned several razer mice. They work fine with no drivers and they typically remember settings. I think you need to realise that some people in the real world you keep talking about aren't terminally lazy and happy to use a Lego OS developed by the Chinese government. Some of us want the best out of our devices especially if it's trivial to get that.

If you can't handle this mild autism you might want to go back to pic related and talk to r/ChinesePhones about their amazing experience using Miui. Telling you to kill yourself over OS choices is top banter here.

Sorry but Xiaomi's data collection is well documented, I mean the Xiaomi Bicycle requires an app to run. A bicycle. And their air purifier which won't turn on if you remove the WiFi chip. And their lightbulbs which require total permissions on your phone to run (ask Unbiased Reviews). Being concerned about using a Xiaomi OS is justified if you've spent 5 minutes here, it isn't "racism" to point out they have WiFi enabled shoes. They're data collection incarnate and unlike Google they don't try to obscure it. Putting distance between you and Xiaomi is smart but clearly you know best sitting there content to have 10gb of data uploaded to their servers a day. You probably use Windows 10 too.

Yeah, my naga definitely remembers settings and my spectre definitely did as well even when used on different computers windows or linux. USB 3 has enough bandwidth, so it's possible. USB2 really doesn't, but USB Ethernet devices can establish a 1G link: your data will be bottlenecked, but theoretically can push more data than over a 100BaseT. So it will almost definitely function as a usable ethernet device. Whether it will be USB 2 or 3, and how it will perform, are up in the air.

Certainly, it's a shitty app. Use your permission manager that you have on MIUI to limit it if you don't like it.

Yep. But I'm not playing make believe with Android (never mind one even laced with Google's services, Google's store, and apps from the Google store that report to Google and many others) either.
