I used to exclusively use Fanboy's ultimate list from the old days of Firefox + ABP, though since uBlock is so lightweight I enable everything aside from the regional filters.

Fanboy Ultimate List (This includes Easylist, Easyprivacy, Enhanced Trackers List and Annoyances List)

So Uncheck EasyList, EasyPrivacy if you already checked Fanboy Ultimate.

Anti-Third Party Social is primarily an Anti Facebook List so if you don't use Facebook, you don't really need it.
>>
>>56829661
Not an absolute necessity to turn off the lists since ublock is very good about redundancy but I suppose it's good practice regardless.
>>
>>56827946
I been to plenty of porn sites.

Ublock Origin blocked all the ads.

Update your filtersl.

The only site that still shows ads to me despite using Ublock Origin is sites like Gelbooru.

Perhaps I need to make a forum post about Gelbooru on one of those filter forums someday.

Gelbooru is MANUALLY inserting 1st party ads into their sites, it's not easily blockable by image or any of that cause it's an image hosting site.

You can do it easily with other rules though, they're just really shitty rules and gelbooru's page is looking really shitty on account of baking ads into it.
>>
>>56830390
>Gelbooru is MANUALLY inserting 1st party ads into their sites
Would this eliminate the chance of viruses?
>>
I have noticed two things about uBlock that trouble me:
1 Some websites (like pornhub) can still force ads through, which only makes sense if pornhub is hosting their own first party ads.

2 Anti-adblock killer doesn't do anything for me. In fact, some website refuse to work for me, even when I turn off ublock entirely. Weather.com, for example. It's like they know i have the extension installed and keeps me from seeing the video at all, until I open a browser without any ad blocker installed..
>>
>>56830780
Uh... technically no? But you can probably assume that if they did want to give you malware they have better ways to hide it than in ads.

I write a lot of my own block rules and userscripts to get around stupid shit, it's pretty easy.
>>
>>56830825
And it looks like I actually wrote a thing for gelbooru at some point in the past.
// ==UserScript==
// @name gelblock
// @namespace asdf
// @include http://gelbooru.com/*
// @include https://gelbooru.com/*
// @version 1
// @grant none
// ==/UserScript==
var a = document.getElementById('content').getElementsByTagName('a');
var re = /b\.webm/
for (var i = 0, len = a.length; i < len; i++) {
if(re.test(a[i].innerHTML)) {
a[i].remove();
}
}

Maybe that works in some awful hacky way.
>>
>>56830825
I am going on Weather.com and watching videos right now and contrary to what you posted, having Ublock Origin installed doesn't prevent me from watching any video at all.

Also, with regards to Anti-Adblock Killer, you did click the information symbol where it tells you to follow Reek's instructions right?

You can't just check Anti Adblock Killer in Ublock Origin without also installing something like Greasemonkey and following Reek's instructions on his github.

Also, I didn't install flash player by the way so I am watching weather.com videos right now with only html5

PSA: Mostly all porn websites on the Pornhub Network have ads built in to the page. Somehow (I haven't tried), I believe you can block them with the element picker.

I guess it isn't really worth being upset over if it works. I thought it meant I only needed to press that button.

But I just went to weather.com as well, and it works now. I mean, I'm using uMatrix for blocking scripts and such, but it's just fucking working and I have no idea what voodoo is taking place.

>>
>>56826781
>Is uBlock origin kill?

There's really no point in using an ad-blocking extension. Just use your HOSTS file. I don't see any ads anywhere, unless I visit some really shit obviously malware porn site that has ads from incredibly obscure sources.

You should also have scripts disabled for non-trusted domains anyway, which is going to cut out any JS ads or popups you might otherwise see.

>>56837845
I don't think you understand how ad blocking works. It needs to be done on the DOM level if you want to catch everything.

I personally use privoxy which serves as a HTTP/HTTPS proxy and can block requests, but it can't block DOM elements or do cosmetic filtering for HTTPS content.
>>
The inbulit Opera adblocker + the Fanboy custom list do the job for me without eating my ram.
>>
>>56837922
>What software would you recommend for host blocking?

You don't need any software. Just grab a pre-edited HOSTS file online somewhere, like http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts2.htm

If you're on Windows, that site includes a batch script for replacing / updating your HOSTS file automatically. If you're on Linux, you'll have to write a script yourself, or just do a drag-and-drop replace every time you want to update the file.

You really don't need to update it any sooner than every six months, if even that.
>>
>>56837973
>It needs to be done on the DOM level if you want to catch everything.

Not sure what you mean. Although I have my browser configuration set to limit DOM popups to 1 and DOM storage quota to 1.

Between NoScript and my HOSTS file, I don't see any ads at all.
>>
>>56837973
your fucking retarded
>>
>>56837973
>>56838113
Forgot to mention, doing it on the DNS level is pretty much the stupidest thing you can do because it doesn't block e.g. requests to example.org/ads/foobar when viewing example.org, which a HTTPS proxy like privoxy would still be capable of.

>Not sure what you mean.
DOM here referring to the HTML tree, which is how in-browser adblockers work (as well as stuff like privoxy) - they parse the HTML and crawl through it, removing ad nodes from the actual document.

This allows you to remove stuff like bad in-line scripts or affiliate links (which are ordinary <a> elements).

Hosts files and DNS resolvers can only block domains on a whole-domain basis

It honestly makes ublock redundant, almost. uBlock is still useful for finding out which websites are okay to unblock scripts for in uMatrix when you inevitably get to a site that is broken. uBlock also has features that uMatrix doesn't, like the element picker, cosmetic filtering, large element blocking (very useful on mobile data), and it wraps all the information in a easy to read interface.

Also, if you aren't such a picky person with what exactly you block, or you don't want to spend more than a few minutes figuring out it works, uBlock does offer an advanced user mode that lets you do more quick script/site blocking. It works really well, but it just isn't as fine grained as uMatrix so you don't have as much control. But for the majority of people uBlock is fine.

I also run Privacy Badger, just in case I let something through uMatrix that is actually trying to track me around, but the filter lists didn't know about.

Not precisely. If you use the default config, then yes this may be true. But if you press like one button in the global scope, you can basically turn it into "block-selectively" mode where everything is allowed until you say otherwise. What I do is allow everything globally, except third party cookies, scripts, and frames. I had to specifically allow 1st party stuff to keep it from breaking every website, but it's really not super complicated once you get over the learning curve.
(pic related, as viewed from the global scope)

It is more complicated than uBlock origin but the extra control it offers can be pretty useful. That said, if you simply block everything globally in uBlock origin's dynamic filter, it will do the same exact thing as uMatrix does by default. It just takes a bit more tinkering to make it comfortable.

uBlock Origin hides ads, it can't really block anything.

yeah, It doesn't show it there, but since I have 1st party ads and cookies highlighted green, it actually does let 4chan run that stuff in my browser. You have to view it from the local scope to see it, though.

I have it set up in a way that allows captcha to function, which is why Google's scripts can run I'm guessing the zkcdn is an advertiser, but I may allow that to go through since 4chan doesn't have very obtrusive ads.

I am suddenly not so sure about this anymore... Privacy badger is giving this website a few shifty looks now.

False,if you want to use legacy captacha(i havent tested v3) you need to alllow gstatic to run scripts to load and send captcha.

Post your filters if you dont

I was just testing how far the ad servers went down the rabbit hole, and have come out thinking it's too far. Too many trackers.
Sorry 4chan. Maybe try more ethical advertisering?

Idiocy.

I just can't seem to get Youtube comments to load with uMatrix.
>>
>>56854672
I'm away from my computer but I would think you need to enable one of YouTube's scripts. I'm a n00b so I essentially would highlight whatever YouTube script is in red (that has numbers meaning its blocked) and enabling until I get comments. A smarter anon will tell how it works.
>>
>>56854821
Nah, it just hit me. You need to allow cookies for youtube.com - I basically knew this was the case already because the comments won't load if you don't allow cookies in the browser's preferences either.

Why the fuck I keep seeing threads like this.
I barely touch my ublock setting for months and let auto update on and I never seen any ads on any sites ever.

The fuck is wrong with /g/ these days?

i thank Gorhill for getting rid of them, also it's not only cookies cause i just tried, you probably have some tracking script also enabled

You need Google.com, Gstatic, and ytimg in order for the site to work properly. So I enable those locally on Youtube but they are blocked on other websites.

Lately I've been seeing the ads appear on pages briefly before disappearing.

I thought it was just a meme that uBlock hides ads rather than blocking them from downloading in the first place, but now it seems like it's true

Try manually updating all your uBlock filters. It seems like pornhub ads are being blocked for me now even with uMatrix turned off, but my filters weren't auto-updating.

I know this is about uBlock, but gonna ask anyway.

In uMatrix what does the Plugin column do exacty? Like, Ii it the permission to install plugins, or does decide whether or not your plugins do your thing? Quick look at the wiki didn't give me any answers.

Thanks
>>
>>56856628
I would assume it does what the other columns do; block that kind of content, in this case plugins.
I find it to be a tad redundant since i have click to play enabled anyway, so no plugins SHOULD be playing without permission.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
