Is it wrong that I want to uninstall windows 10 and install 7 instead?
>>
No. I did the same thing. Win7 is GOAT
>>
>>56808032
Depends on if you wanna use DX12.
If you don't, you're fine
>>
>>56808045
I'm currently downloading 7+SP1. Can you still download updates on 7? I remember reading some cases of Windows Update taking hours to show the updates or sometimes not even working.

>>56808092
Nope. My graphics card is weak as fuck (GT610) so I'm not going to miss DX12.

Really, I wanted to give 10 an opportunity, but it's buggy, a tad slower and looks awful,
>>
>>56808032

Nah I understand. I like the look and feel of the older Windows editions.
>>
Yes, get a fitting linux distro and virtualise win7
>>
>>56808032
nah, that's normal
>>
>>56808128
Yes, a fix as been released for the buggy updater. You can also use WSUSoffline and download individual updates. Bear in mind there'll be some telemetry shit in there though.
>>
>>56808032
7 and 8.1 are both better than 10

>>56808128
Look up readiness updates and convenience rollup
>>
>>56808197
Okay. I'm aware of the telemetry updates. I saw some people making list of updates to avoid.
>>
>>56808128
Might be placebo really but i stopped updating W7 since i had two T420 thinkpads running the same hardware + SSD and found clean W7 installation + drivers to be a lot quicker than fully updated W7 + drivers.

It's not like i'm going to get new features anyway, only enhanced botnet.
>>
>>56808032
I did that just now!
>>
>>56808254
i have this list of kb's i gathered in the WSUS exclude list, some are telemetry, other are GWX/win10 (only so it don't install them and then use another kb to uninstall...) and the WU client (i set it to disable and the service on manual only, feel free to change it however you want, just research each kb.

Same here. It's ridiculous that a fully updated W7 is like packing on bloatware to slow down the computer.
>>
>>56808032
What's keeping you? Do it. Make it easier on yourself. 10 will bring nothing but misfortune for lowly consumers.

I have the same urge every week OP but then I have to remind me of a few shortcomings of W7 to stop myself.

>can't mount .iso natively
>hours of updating
>no dx12
>worse multi monitor support
>win7 bitlocker is worthless without a TPM and truecrypt is dead software
>can't manually activate SSD trim (unsure)

Just fuck Microsoft for making W10 so awful.
>>
>>56808979
>WinCDemu works and it doesn't run in the background or anything, only when you need it.
>see >>56808393 and >>56808866 or just use wsus offline update which does it in less than 10 min
>True
>True
>VeraCrypt
>True, but some third party tools like Samsung Magician can

I'd do it because the pros outweigh the cons imo, but then again i don't need dx12 and find w10 UI disgusting.
>>
>>56808045
this
>>
Windows 10 has such godly window management imo it's worth using just for that alone

Newest updates make it run smoothly and look ok. Tbh it's just more features and there's few things I miss about aero and the like

>can't mount .iso natively
so what, plenty of good third party tools exist.
pic related, pretty much 0 ressource usage. Windows can't do PDF natively either, who cares? And if having to install 30 programs is an issue, ninite exists.
>hours of updating
what?
besides, you should be disabling updates anyway because
>trusting microsoft after W10
kek
>no DX12
what the fuck are you playing that requires it. Guess what you don't need to play those 1-2 games
>bitlocker is worthless
win10 spying makes any efforts at security worthless. why bother with encryption when anything you type is sent over the network anyway?
>I can block the telemetry
yeah, you can try to play the game of hide and seek with microsofts telemetry server IPs but i'd rather not. Also, thinking that that'll work long term is delusional at best(any kind of blocker software running on top of the OS is basically like firmly asking the OS to stop spying)
>>
>>56808032
That's what I'd do if my PC had proper drivers for Windows 7. My wifi cuts out often and my touchpad leaves an occasional copy of the cursor that doesn't disappear until I reset explorer. But shit works fine on W10.

Stupid drivers causing OS exclusivity.
>>
>tfw I found out my touchpad is only supported on Windows 10 because of the interface it uses to the processor
fucking skylake
>>
>>56809669
I scrolled through a bunch of shit threads and this one triggered me the most. Everyone has used Windows 7 and everyone has used Windows 10.

Choose the one you preferred the most. Win 7 still gets security updates so that's not an issue you need to consider.

Personally I think win8.1 feels the nicest but I'm the 5% who used 8.1 and gave it a real chance. 8 was garbage though. There were significant improvements.

Having to search in the metro UI(that isn't the official name anymore) wasn't that bad and the search was just as shit as windows 10 ( which no one will agree with but I can prove it if you search for battle.net neither find it. Windows 7 most likely will since it has no internet search.)
>>
The fuck kind of dumb ass question is that
>>
>>56810018
They don't find battle.net because for some retarded reason it doesn't install entries in the start menu properly except for W7.
>>
Don't worry you'll miss the flat design and reinstall 10 anyway.
There is no other reason to use 7 over 10 besides the aero desktop.
>>
>>56810335
Know why it happens doesn't take away from my point though. Objectively the search for windows 8.1 and windows 10 are the same but everything else about windows 8.1 feels like a better experience though I need to use the start button
>>
>>56808032
No, resisting change is perfectly expected for autistic persons such as yourself.
>>
>>56811838
Though I don't need to use the start button*
>>
tried installing a fresh XPx64 but kept running into bluescreens and other problems (ie8 doesn't support the new tls suite used by skype so you can't sign in)

happy with 7 now. it's running faster that 10 was on this SSD
>>
>>56808032
It's not wrong to want to install anything over Windows 10. You could want to replace 10 with ME and you'd still be correct to do so.

You no longer need to do this. Just turn off telemetry gathering tasks in task scheduler and do a full update. There was an update published this month by microsoft that removes all windows 10 offer stuff. It also supersedes those win 10 offer updates; they're no longer available from the normal windows update client. One update that I will stress you not download is KB971033 (Windows Activation Technologies update). It offers no special access to features and no improvements to security or performance. It only makes it harder to license windows with the tools pirates often use. That's it.

The point is that DirectX 12 is exclusive to one version of Windows, while Vulkan is also available for those who don't wish to upgrade to Windows 10. With Vulkan, you can keep your Windows 7.
>>
There's nothing I find more cringy than losers trying to be edgy and telling everyone to install Linux. Windows 10 is probably the most optimized windows since xps3. it has everything you need to ask for. That being said don't listen to those weebs trying to tell you to install Linux so you can have an anime background with an anime cursor while not being to do shit on it except for browse internet. Literally every software for Linux is shit tier and does not even 5% of what windows programs can. The amount of autists on this board is ridiculous

>>56820971
The best way to be "secure enough" is to use different machines for different things and try to make sure that there isn't a single point of failure in your system. I would never log into my work account from home. I have different computers that I use for different things. The phone that I carry on a daily basis is unlocked and I don't really do anything but receive calls and browse through TOR with no history. It uses fdroid and not the play store. I keep a few SMS on there from my family so if I lose it, someone might return it, but otherwise it doesn't hook up to anything.

>>
>>56820622
Unless you ask for control over when it restarts. Win10 is a disaster.
>>
>>56808032
I don't understand this as naturally as others do. I mean I understand the logical reasons, but for the simple usage on a laptop 10 makes no difference at all. Yes it is annoying that it restarts at weird times, and it crashed things a few times so far, but overall it's alright and I believe a step in the right direction in the mess that is windows (except for botnet + ads, only technically actually).

To be honest, it's basically W10 or Linux to me. I wouldn't use 7 unless there's something specific that requires 7 or work requires me to use it. Just use Linux.
