Honestly? I don't know. I wasn't there when the "upgrade" failed. I got the call the next day. I am clear that "Something Happened" and that some option to revert back to Win7 was offered. I am very fuzzy on what actually happened, including if/how/when the system rebooted properly or if it got powered down by the user. In the middle of trying to revert. (that's my top guess: he got tired of waiting and powered off the system; I'll never know)

If I would have had more time, I would have investigated more recovery options. Frankly, my dad is an asshole, so I don't really care if his Trump porn collection got erased. What he considered "important" data includes shit like his email folder for all the "proof" that Obama was born in Kenya.

It was a complete conversion of a Win7 Home install that was five years old into Win10. That failed. Then the system tried to return to the state Win7 was in when the win10 conversion was attempted.

He already ignored years worth of advice & training on how to back up his important data. He chose to ignore it, he can eat the pain.

Installed Windows 10 whilst it was still in beta a couple of weeks before official launch.

Other than a few minor issues I had with DS3Windows ( A third party program for mimicking Xinput in PS4 controller ) Which was fixed in a couple of months, everything worked.

Still running that same installation, no problems yet.
