>prof sends class material as .doc despite the policy saying that all class documents should be sent as .pdf
>all math formulas are unreadable

Proprietary software and computer literate old fucks will make me fail college

Assuming LibreOffice doesn't work, go to the fucking library, Jesus.

I use LibreOffice. While I see some formatting quirks from time to time, "completely unreadable" has never been the case.

Step 1: E-mail the prof saying that you are too poor to afford office, so please send files as .pdf, as per policy
Step 2: Google "doc to pdf converter" or use Libre in the meantime.

Did it become uncommon to use latex for scientific documents?

The latest equation editor for MS Office is very normie friendly. Personally, I switched to AnsciiMath because Latex gives me arthritis. Latex is pretty much pointless now.

This.I got through my BS in '09 without a computer of my own. Just spent inordinate amounts of time in the lab and library. It can be done. Pencil and paper are all that you really need to furnish yourself. Oh and make sure to buy an ereader for textbooks and save your wallet and back a lot of stress. Kobo is worth its weight in gold.

What old math teacher doesn't use latex
