>What do you think about browser syncing?
Where do the syncing data go and are they safe there?
Do they sell the data?
I don't trust ANY company or "free-software community" like Mozilla or Google. But it's soo comfy!
I just back up my bookmarks.html manually, and I have a prefs.js file with my preferred settings.

I'd love it, if I could control it (almost) completely
it was possible with firefox if you could set your own server (owncloud with plugin), dunno what's the state of it right now
I probably would use it if I could but my browser no longer supports it.

firefox sync encrypts data locally before uploading it to mozilla servers. the key is encrypted using your password, which isn't stored in plaintext in mozilla's servers. they only have the encrypted key, which isn't enough to decrypt the data, but still makes it possible to recover your data, even if you lose all your devices. it's bretty smart.
you can also host your own sync server if you still don't trust it.

So does Chromium though. You lose your sync data if you lose your passphrase.
