Poor lithium ion cell design. 30+ incidents of Note 7 phones going explodey. No other samsung phone is affected. Voluntary but highly recommended recall in effect. Samsung are going to gimp the faulty handsets with OTA updates that limit their total battery charge to speed up the process. Replacements already being issued to customers.

I work at a major distributor that buys 10s of millions $ worth of samshits a year and this recall is a massive pain in our behinds.

And yes, it's very real, otherwise Samsung wouldn't have acted that quickly. They know exactly just how terrifyingly bad they messed this one up.

As others said above the batteries are defective but now it's now an official recall.

A week ago it was only a "return program" with Samsung trying to quietly brush it under the carpet and the dozens of phones having their batteries fail was not going to be kept silent.

Note the "Product Exchange Program" which many sites erroneously call a "recall" as the CPSC wasn't involved. Today the site now says of course pic related "Safety Recall".
