Why havent we adapted to using MOAR CORES yet?
Wouldnt it be faster than just relying on a few when they arent getting any faster?
>>
Cores don't need to get faster, developers need to git gud.
>>
Because most programs/vydia can't fully utilize more than 2-4 cores efficiently. More cores would not help at all.

However there are applications where moar cores would be acceptable such as video encoding and ray tracing but most people will rarely do those things.

but if it did we could just make processors faster by adding moar cores instead of relying on IPC when it raped and killed Moores Law

but what if we
what if
get this
what if devs...
learned to git gud

1.] AMD did that, it didn't work. Developers are lazy pieces of shit who will rarely go beyond the call of duty and optimize their programs to efficiently use more than 2-4 cores.
2.] Moores Law has nothing to do with processing power, all it says is the transistor will double per square inch after a certain time.

Anyway eventually we will have to start slapping moar coars to get more performance but it doesn't mean devs will start writing non-shitty code. Tough times are ahead of us m8.
>>
Hell will freeze over before programmers use more than 4 cores properly.
>>
Also, it's worth noting there is a fair share of things within software that will always be more efficiently done on one core.
>>

I think this is outdated information. Almost every program now is multithreaded.

Entire programming languages have been designed around easy parallelism (go, elixir, ...)

Android apps and UWP apps must be multithreaded (no long-running computations or network access can run on the ui thread)

The "apps/devs can't multithread, single core perf is best" meme needs to die. It might have been true 20 years ago but it was outdated in 2006 and it's outdated now

Yes more than 2 cores can be utilized but can they be used efficiently (ie Arma 3)? Most devs don't bother, dealing with 4 fucking cores is already heart fucking already.

A modern engine (e.g. UE4) will use all the available cpu cores.

No idea about arma 3 specifically, try >>>/v/ .
