Not sure if this is the right place to ask.
I'm not a very PC-savy guy, but I tried my hand at cleaning my pc. In the process I removed the CPU fan from the CPU, seperating the heatsinks. Being an idiot, I didn't replace the thermopaste (have now) but I'm quite sure I'd have smelled the smoke if it was burnt. Have no clue what may cause this, please help!
With simply Chrome running my CPU usage is at a steady 50%-ish.
The CPU is an Intel Core i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz.
Can provide pictures if need be.
Please help /g/.
Your house is on fire
Also I'm pretty sure most modern CPUs (for past 5-10 years?) don't burn but shut down if overheated

That is true, so there's no damages. But I still don't understand why it's so slow.

/g/ is not your tech support
get yourself a task manager and look at what is causing the 50%
if it´s chrome realize what a tool you are and get firefox or any of its forks

It's fairly certainly software related. Reinstall windows or some shit and see if it still happens.

If you fry a CPU you'll know it. Smells terrible and it lingers in the room for days afterward. Likely a software issue
