>Android 7.0 is moving encryption from full-disk encryption to file-based encryption
How does /g/ feel about this?
don't know details (link pls?) but sounds horribly weak

Detailed info here: https://source.android.com/security/encryption/file-based.html
tl;dr
We're getting rid of full-disk encryption and replacing it with user file-space encryption.

THey introduced it so you can have different files with different users with different passwords encrypting them.
If anything, it means even normies with mom and pop having two different accounts not having to share their own password.
Tho i would still rather have FDE, i don't share my devices, it's like if i shared my asshole with others to poop with.

At first glance, it looks like an attempt to try to catch up with iOS. I'd need to see more details about the ecosystem to really evaluate it - in particular looking at the Keymaster HAL and Trusty TEE.
It doesn't look to be quite finished yet.

First glance still, and there are lots of potential gotchas, but it's probably stronger than the custom dm-crypt based FDE Android has had up until now. At least there's some AE there.
