The problem is that despite some retarded usability problems, windows 8 was built on a solid base.

8.1 polished it and made it near perfect by solving the usability problems, it nearly had no bugs.

10 has both weird usability and is full of bugs.

Its shit right now, and I am not seeing it becoming any more stable with the updates.

>NT 4.0
Dated but stable and made use of NTFS which was better than FAT32
>ME
98SE with instable kernel and more features that will be used later in XP
>2000
Stable, dated less support for gaming hardware such as my 2 Voodoo 2 cards (No sli support or Glide)
>XP
Taking what was good from 2000 and ME and built upon NT it was the OS that had the most support for hardware and also had direct connection between software and hardware through DirectX, DirectSound, DirectInput etc.
>Vista
Like ME was to 98SE and NT4.0 it packed more stuff at the cost of stability, new way of handling DirectSound, Inpux and DirectX meant drivers had to be re-written to work with Windows new privilege tiers introduced with UAC, later Service Packs fixes lots of it but it's still a bandaid OS in the end
>7
It's Vista healed and up and running, but now with more muscle, more features and speedier kernel, it's what Vista was meant to be so it's considered Vista 2.0

In part 2 we see the OS changing direction.
>>
>>56645350
>8
Is what happens when an OS breaks into two and becomes OS/App. This OS took UAC* to a new level of impracticability for power users while keeping less tech savvy people safer.
It's direction in UI is questionable since it is a miss match of various elements.
>8.1
Is 8 in looks and name but just like Vista it's nothing like the vanilla 8. Less problems, more stable but it's still bound by the limits of UAC*
>10
It's 8.1 more refined, more secure. At the cost of even worse and more intruding security functions. UAC* is running on over drive and hinders power users even more.
It's a mix of OS, App and commercial tool for information collecting. Thus limits power users from disabling certain features in gpedit.

>UAC*
Disable UAC and you have a functional OS again, at the cost of not being able to use any ModernUI(Formely known as Metro) Apps.
But at least drag and drop works on all three privilege tiers.

Interesting posts anon. You missed Server 2003 which has different codebase from XP and and NT 3.1, 3.5.
>>
>>56645608
I skipped all server OS including 2003, R2 2008 and R2 2012 since it even more remote than the NT 4.0 systems.
I did use win2000 AD instead of Pro though so my experience with regular Win 2000 is slightly limited.

Win1 and 2 is based on what I could gather from various sites and opinions.
CE is a dumbed down OS to fit what was at the time sub-par hardware so even if the OS had features the hardware it was made to run on didn't give a good enough experience, at least not from the ones we used at work.

Microsoft would have used DMF (1.68 MB) for anything with that many disks.
>>
>>56646282
From the wikipedia article:

The first disk/disks, then, must contain some software to read DMF, and since DMF is not supported on it's own, the first floppy/ies must be 1.44mb formatted.

Windows 95 was okay. Windows 98 and Windows ME were terrible because they were really abusing how complex a 32-bit wrapper on a 16-bit OS could be.

This does not include Windows 2000 which was okay.

Ignore the faggots who say this should include NT. NT was not for home use. Microsoft didn't deceive businesses on purpose like it did home users.
