Just install linux mint MATE edition. Easiedt to use for total noobs. Everything works out of the box. Runs smoothly on a toaster. Looks decent. Do it.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. As someone who has used both, Ubuntu is easier, the help you can find online is more detailed and explains only what you need to know.

Manjaro is a fork of Arch and requires using the AUR which can be confusing for maximum linux newbies. Also I've had issues with Manjaro and general stability. Even after weekly updates things can break and require a reinstall. It's nice for customization and faster that Ubuntu, and updating packages is so comfy with -Syu
