What does /g/ think about the Talos Secure Workstation?
>>56635036
>implying using this wouldn't just make them monitor you closer
>>56635036
what distros still support PPC
>>56636928
debian, ubuntu, arch, gentoo, fedora
>>56636970
Nope, Arch doesn't anymore.
>>56636970
ubuntu doesn't support ppc anymore, just alternatives like lubuntu
>>56636928
POWER is NOT necessarily PPC.
>>56635036
too expensive and specs are too high
need a more affordable solution
>>56637248
The really high price is mainly due to the first batches being really tiny.
>>56635036
it's a low-end POWER system that can't run AIX
the openness is interesting but not really exciting at the price point
the precedent it sets is exciting however, maybe one of these days x86 alternatives on the desktop won't be so expensive and I can get myself a little ITX lunchbox with a RISC-V or ARM chip in it to break up the monotony of wintel everything
or I can just buy one on ebay for $60 in 15 years

Why did old tech look so good?
>>56635036
>ASPEED BMC
>secure
don't fall for it
>>56638140
It looks like powerful, professional technology instead of a cheap VCR or a trash bin trying to hide from what it is.
>>56635036
If only it was $1,000.
I'm hyped, it costs more than my car but I'm still getting it
>>56636996
PPC is an architecture and POWER is an instruction set.
>>56638705
PPC is a subset of POWER
they're compatible but not the same
>>56638140
Durability, the moment companies noticed that you dont buy a new pc every year and that the production costs have fallen they stopped carrieng about the design. Components are cheap and disposable, also rises the income for the management as prices stay the same.
