Yes, my random ass Toshiba Canvio.Basics 1TB has lived through some shit and a half-wild cat I own.

owned by them, doesnt mean wd says clear out your manufacturing plant and use our inventory insteaad

Their R&D departments are autonomous and everything between them seems to be autonomous aswell, R&D, manufacturing, warranty regulations and chances of getting a good experience when getting a DOA
I have a Seagate External H/drive. It is about 4 years old. Still works great. Some of the Seagate drives are junk though.
I have had Maxtor, Seagate and WD hard drives that have failed.
Seagate.
2.5 inch v 3.5 inch drives? 2.5 drives are comfier (size and no power adaptor required). What are the disadvantages?
I buy all WD. I haven't had any problems with them, and the many Seagates I've had fall straight out of the skies. 3.5" is cheaper.

None. External hdds are garbage and worthless. If you need a place to store your files either get a NAS or build your own storage server with RAID controller.

HDD enclosure. Pick one. Then it's only a matter of what brand HDD you want to stuff in them.

And then, plastic drive cases. So you can stuff HDDs you've filled up into them so they can survive the test of time without a problem and stay clear from moisture:

Label everything and you're good.
