tricked my dad into putting a slow, master passworded linux OS on my toshiba laptop.
their OS requires me to go to their shop whenever i need to update or install new programs.
Would removing the harddrive, putting in a fresh new one, and installing windows 7 onto said harddrive get rid of the old linux OS?
yes

oh thank god, his linux is shit, and isn't compatible with MOST stuff.
he 'designed' it himself apparently.

Yes, but if you need to ask you shouldn't do it. They did you a favor by not giving you admin privileges.
If you're going through the trouble, might as well get an ssd and put a recent Linux distro on it. Fedora is pretty easy to install and not shit once you add rpm fusion.

by not giving me admin privileges, my buddy at case western univ wasn't able to fix the damn thing

and you think driving 15 minutes to install any new program or update any driver is worth an OS that you have to learn coding to use?

Just wipe the drive and install gentoo.
