What does free mean then?
>>56616473
unused
>>56616496
What is the 4.5 thats available used for then?

telemetry

damn anon, have you even heard of google?
you have 8G of ram
you're using 3.5G with applications, 3.5G is cached data, and 1G is unused
that's you're 8G.
cached data is dropped if an application wants it, so the 3.5 cached and 1G free adds up to... 4.5. the amount that is available.

I think Free means never used and Available refers to what can be overwritten. It isn't freed up because you might ned it at a later time, i.e. an application to open faster. But at the same time if a new program rewuires it it can be used for that one instead.

Yeah, kinda PC101, unused memory is a waste, that's the OS's job to use it, for cache or whatever if no other use. (and then to drop it all quickly if it is needed)

So i can allocate 4gb to a game?
>>56616858
Yes! read what I said >>56616611
You will be able to allocate almost all your 8 GB since you have 8 more of swap (Commit = RAM + swap)
>>56616858
You can't really allocate RAM for a game, if the game needs it, it will use what it can, your OS will simply stop using that RAM for other things.
>>56616858
yes, there's 4.5G available, if an applications want it, the OS will drop as much cache as needed for it to have it

I have a little more free RAM
