Can I clean out my cpu socket when small amounts of thermal paste made their way in?
And if I can, how?
Thanks /g/urus
>>
Soap and water are fine. Make sure that the power supply is unplugged (obviously).
>>
>>56612641
if it's non-conductive paste, it shouldn't hurt anything. Leave it alone.
>>
>>56612687
It is conductive paste sadly
>>
>>56612641
slide ?
you can but thermal paste is by definition [conductive] ... thats bad
>>
There are those kinds of play-dough cleanup things that you can use. dont remeber their names but that should work
>>
>>56612641
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

be careful next time, kid
>>
>>56612641
Since it's such a small amount I'd recommend just using a needle. A toothpick might fuck shit up if it breaks so don't try that.
>>
Rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab. It should be fine even if you miss some as long as it's isolated per contact point.
>>
>>56612641
(very) Hot water mixed with soap.
Use a straight hair brush to gently work the socket holes and create an emulsion, wipe often.
Use air compressor to remove what's in them, air dry the thing properly.
Use a magnifier & torch to see if there's any residue, if not, just be sure your mb is clean & dry and it should be okay.

>you can but thermal paste is by definition [conductive] ... thats bad
no. Very few thermal pastes are electrically conductive.

Cpu got stuck to heatsink and fell
>>
>>56612641
I've had a simillar problem.recently
But the thermal paste actually got on my cpu pins
I bought 99.8% alcohol (most 90%+ will do), got a clean tootbrush and just wiped it with that.
>>
>>56612678
No, this will leave residue. Don't do it.

>>56612740
This. Isopropyl alcohol is a standard go to for cleaning thermal paste up, soak a toothbrush and gently scrub over the affected holes, then hit it with an air duster to blow out the remains. Do not blow with your mouth or you may blast spit into a hole.
>>
Just use a fucking toothbrush
>>
>>56612757
shouldn't CPU be locked to the MB?
how can you take out heatsink and cpu at same time?
>>
>>56612748
Sadly, mine is.
>>
>>56612797
Get a toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol and brush it gently
>>
>>56612790
I accidentally fucking unlocked the cpu
>>
>>56612769
Would a clean airbrush with alcohol work?

Did it work better than replacing the motherboard?
>>
>>56613176
Well, the thermal paste I used wasn't actually conductive, but I still wanted to wipe it off completely.
I soaked the toothbrush in isoproyl alcohol and gently rubbed the pins with a somewhat soft toothbrush.
Everything got off, It evaporated quickly and it worked without a problem.
I would suggest you do the same as long as you can get 90%+ alcohol.
>>
>>56612641
Clean as much as you can
If the thermal paste doesn't get spilled over it should be fine.
The thing that'll fuck it up is if you make a circuit between pins with cpu pins
>>
>>56612641
Amd socket?
Well, good then, you can switch to intel finally
>>
>>56612641
How do you even manage this?
>>
>>56613589
I really don't want to switch motherboards thoughhhhhhh
>>
>>56613653
It fell on it upside down

This is why you twist the heatsink off gently and not just yank it off.

that's actually impressive

I'm Richard Stallman, and this is my Free Software Foundation. I work here with my old thinkpad and my GNU/License. Everything in here has a GNU tag and source code. One thing I've learned after 33 years - you never know what conspiracy I will think of next.
>>
Would it be easier to replace motherboard?
>>
>>56612641
Thankfully you have superior AMD technology. If you had Intel that would be the end of your mobo.
Now take a paper towel and rub the socket. Done.
