Are there any couple hundred dollar headphones that actually feel like they didn't cost $20 to manufacture? I can understand metal is heavy and using plastic makes it lighter on your head. But looking at some of these headphones I see being recommended around just look like they're cheap as fuck. All those hundreds of dollars just go into the actual earpieces themselves or what? Where is all his money actually going?

How does it make it worse? We got shitposting or we got shitposting. At least with the full OP we have a signpost that shitposting is going to occur and that it can be stopped by simply pointing to the appropriate line in the OP.

You're free to stick your head in the sand but don't expect anyone else to not TRY AND DO SOMETHING.

You do realize that the majority of the thread prefers a cleaner OP?

Want to stop the shitposting? Then just stop posting about wireless in general. Or unless you all want to have a HEALTHY discussion about the pros and cons of wireless.

What I'm doing is for the betterment of the thread.

I used to have these but they were garbage they had a loud static sound whenever they were on but not playing anything and had a ear shattering beep it would do whenever it lost connection which it did all the time it would also do that beep every 5 seconds when the battery was low which made it impossible to use when the battery was low. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038NK9HU/

My current headphones are giving me a fucking baldspot on my head, so I'd like little to no pressure on my scalp when wearing them
>Past headphones
The ones I have now are G430s, apart from comfort I'm content with them
>>
>>56608447
Anything comfortable is going to have just enough clamp force to keep the drivers from shifting when you turn your head and using pressure on top of your head to keep the headphone from shifting forwards or backwards. Maybe you should look into some IEMs if you think your headphones are causing you bald?
>>
>>56608497
I'm so used to full ones, but if they're comfortable and stay on my ears im all for it

>>
>>56608729
"Nigger bass" is a meme and can be ignored, headclamp refers to possible excessive clamping force on the head. This can usually be toned down with use or by flexing the headband so it's not a big deal.

Sibilance is an actual acoustic term referring to a hissing noise usually around vocals with an "ess" sound in the 4-10khz range.

You've been slowly suckering people into Bluetooth trash over these past few months which over regular analog technology provides zero advantages and only introduces multiple new failpoints and a price hike vs the alternative especially for earbuds and IEMs, drink bleach you fucking shitstain.
>>
>>56608827
People hear differently so you probably don't hear it. For people that can it is pretty unmistakable and sometimes irritating or painful depending on volume.
>>
>>56607349
Why the hell not? Unless the ear pads are not replaceable and headband is not easy to clean.

At worst there will be dead skin and sweat residue build up in the ear pads and hair especially if it is velour or fabric.

Worst case scenario rip those pads and buy new ones and sanitize the headband, if it costs significantly less to buy a used pair + ear pads then he can target a higher end headphone for the same budget.

Hygiene aside I would be mostly worried about the condition of the headphones after being used and abused. Especially if the build quality is not up to scratch.

I literally just told you. It's pointless technology that makes no sense. not quite
598 definitely aren't bright
theyre slightly warm with somewhat rolled off highs and bass
the 558 is slightly more warm and bassy
the 518 are decently bassy

all are really not bass cannons, but theyre all really quite nice to listen to
imo the bass on the 518 slightly drowns out the amazing clarity that the drivers can manage

none compare to some beyers and the m40x/m50x in terms of rumble

essentially, if you have the funds, go for the x2
if you want closed, get beyers

Superlux hd668b aren't particularly insensitive or hard to drive so I don't think you need an amp. Does it get unbearably loud when you turn the volume up to full?
>>
>>56610124
>>56610269
You don't need an amp. The impedance curve is generally flat and they are quite sensitive.

>things sound a bit tinny,
They roll off heavily at about 60hz and have very spiky treble; it's the characteristic of the headphone.
>>
>>56610329
What do you mean by unbearably loud? As in the audio quality or simply how comfortable the volume is? I kinda have pussy ears that are sensitive to very loud noises, so my last headphones (takstar hi 2050) I had the windows volume mixer at 50, when I got these I had to turn it up to 75 just to hear things.

e-sports players usually wear IEMs under isolating muffs, often with sponsor headsets around the neck for voice coms or just for show. it sounds and looks retarded but the IEM/muffs thing is in the rules for a bunch of e-sports because with the way stages and play areas are set up it's possible to gain info about the opponent if you can hear enough.

668b amped has slightly more impactful and tighter bass from my subjective impressions. I own a lot of headphones and most don't change their sound from amping but a few do. that said 668b has pretty weak impact considering it's bass elevation, that's probably what you're hearing. the bass hump adds a good deal of warmth but not a lot of thump. low impact can lead to the impression that the bass is weak when it's actually not, especially for inexperienced listeners. you want an open headphone with bass impact? get a 681evo or an x2.
>>
>>56610388
>I had to turn it up to 75 just to hear things.
There might be something wrong with your headphones then. Do you have a stereo system or a friend that has a stereo system or some other strong source you could test it with?
>>
>>56610388
>>56610404
you should have windows mixer at 100% always. control volume with the player, and to give more wiggle-room with the slider if you have pussy ears like I do, lower the pot/knob on your amp and nuke the preamp on your eq (which you should be doing anyways).

>>
>>56610404
maybe I exaggerated, I meant I had to turn it up to 75 to be able to hear my friend in skype, or to clearly discern speech in general. I could still hear everything at 50, it just wasn't clear.

as a side note, I read one reviewer talking about the superlux hd668b headphones and "breaking them in", specifically that the sound quality improved after hours of use. is this actually true for any pair of headphones or was that guy talking out of his ass?
>>
>>56610502
Earbuds are infinitely more comfortable for me, headphones just make my head really sweaty. As for microphonics how bad is it? Could I solve that with a DAC?
>>
>>56610503

>>
>>56610539
Those are canalphones, deep insertion. Kind of different from most other in-ears and especially earbuds.

>As for microphonics how bad is it?
Microphonics refers to cable noise. Only way to avoid excessive amount of it is to route the cable nicely, use a clip to attach it to clothes etc.
>>
>>56610539
>Earbuds are infinitely more comfortable for me,
Maybe typical ones. Etys _require_ deep insertion.

>As for microphonics how bad is it? Could I solve that with a DAC?
What? Microphonics is the noise made when the cable touches something. It can be solved by looping the cable behind your ear or a shirt clip.

SONY XBA-C10 bought at 20€ 3-4 years ago

Kinda hesitating between soundmagic E10, piston 4 (but they're not neutral) and lastly these guys http://www.gearbest.com/iphone-headsets/pp_234355.html?wid=21

One of the earplug is broken on my current XBA-C10, I'd like to know if I can also easily repair it, and if it is really worth my time or not, rather than buying another set
If the XBA-C10 are better than any of these I cited I would go for the repair option since I was satisfied with them, otherwise I'd like some insight concerning those I mentioned

Thanks in advance

>>
>>56617706
Foobar2000 has a nice converter but you'll need the codecs yourself for certain operations. Luckily basically all of them are available as binaries. WAV to FLAC is a lossless operation but the compression efficiency and speed of the conversion depends on the codec used. Just get the newest one for best results but there isn't much of a difference here. As for mp3, use the newest version of LAME and settings above V2. For minimum loss with mp3, V0 is the highest quality option.

And of course there's ffmpeg.

Well I'm probably going to be buying some high impedance headphones later but for now I wanted to try opamp and tube rolling. I'm dissatisfied with just playing with an equalizer. There is some muddyness to my sound that clearly seems to be related to the quality of the equipment I play my music on.

I have a Fiio e5 from way back but its not very good sounding to me and honestly very cheap build quality. The 598s are already bright headphones and the e5 made it worse. Some warmth from tubes would be a great bonus.

Also for some reason my headphones seem to be needing more juice as they get older. I have to crank my volumes all the way up sometimes. Maybe my ears are going.

Planning to get the Sennheiser HD 598.
Are they worth the buck or should I be getting something else for the price?

Wait for the HD 599.

>The flexibility is improved over Alex's first cable design. Much less stiff, and seems to be breaking in faster. I had ~150 hours on my first Platinum cable for LCD-X before it really opened up. The new Platinums (for LCD-X and Focal Elear) seem to break in more quickly. I am still not there, continue looking for that optimum SQ that I believe awaits me...

What do these retards mean by this? Why do they think they hear meaningful differences in hyper expensive cables and break-in?

Why is the headband for the XPT100s such a flimsy piece of shit? Love the way these sound and how comfy they are but the fucking cheap chinkshit build quality on just the headband alone fucks it.

I've filled out this form in significantly greater detail here: http://pastebin.com/TwPFe3mt

Thanks for any advice! For my rather basic needs, probably anything will do, but I figure this is an investment so I want to get this right the first time.
>>
>>56620302
MDR-7506 or MDR-V6. Flattish frequency response (on the brighter side). Comfort is good. Pads don't last on them, aftermarket pads are a pain in the ass because it changes the sound.

DT770 Pro 80 Ohm Limited Edition. V-shaped sound, lots of sub-bass and lots of treble. Comfort is superb.
>>
>>56620302
DT990. A bit more v-shaped but with bright treble you like.
Another option is the AD900 if you want a completely bright high end without an emphasized bottom.
>>
>>56620425
Thank you for the suggestions. Do I want a V-shape sound? Does a V shape reduce the middle frequencies or does it emphasize the base and treble frequencies? Or does it depend on the headphone? The middle frequencies seem like they would be pretty important to not miss.

>>56620630
What is the difference between the AD900 and AD900X? They're $100 apart in price, and one is labeled "open back" while the other is labeled "open air." A little bit of googling didn't help me much.

Allegedly the X has a bit more bass. Not enough for the $100 difference in my opinion.
>>
>>56620811
>Does a V shape reduce the middle frequencies or does it emphasize the base and treble frequencies?
both, I forgot about the AD900X, it's 138usd on amazon, it's more a mid/treble oriented headphone with weak bass, the AD900 is old and out of production.

>if anyone wants a good recommendation, the form is good.

The form is literally directly from /r/headphones.

>>
>>56621310
Yea they do, but the 600s are expensive enough, the 650 hits almost 300€

Also I've read that the 650 have a bigger soundstage. I'm wondering if big soundstages are bad for electronic music since that would make the bass sound further away, no?
>>
>>56621211
hd558, dvorak stuff, new to classical
>>
>>56621339
Soundstage is larger on the HD650 because it has less 3k emphasis.

HD650 and HD600 sound pretty close to me, electronic music sounds fine on both imo.

Neither.

As Zeos puts it, the mids are neutral.

Thanks for the help!

The AD900X (https://amzn.com/B009S331VU) looks like a good choice. Then again, it looks like it is pretty similar to the HD598 (https://amzn.com/B0126HISOO).

They seem pretty close. I'm still a little mad at audio technica for their headphones exploding on me, but if you guys here can vouche for them I'll give their brand another try.

I seem to find some mixed answers on the internet on the AD900X vs the HD598. Which one is the best choice if I'm looking to maximize the brighter sounds and headphone comfort?

Comfort is even between both, but the AD900X is no doubt the brighter of the two.

They actually don't sound as bad as that chart suggests. The bass is actually okish for EDM, which made me very surprised, and the sibilance isn't as strong as the DT990, but it's definitely there.

On the other hand the K612 Pro is absolutely anemic. Unfortunately the site only has the K601

The AD900X is looking pretty convincing. Reading some reviews, people are saying that they have an airy sound. Does that mean it won't sound as crisp/clear?

>>56621588
How much different are they from these?

Pretty great desu. I don't think there's any better closed headphones for the price. If you don't need closed there are better options since it lack in soundstage due to being closed
