>>
My employer.
>>
Pretty much everything in Industry uses XP still
>>
>>56605951
Same here.

Shit freezes every hour. Glad that we are "transitioning over to RHEL over the course of the first three months of the next fiscal year".

Linux master race FTW.
>>
>>56605929
I am right now, well, POSReady 2009.
>>
laptop uses win10 desktop still uses XP
>>
>>56605929
It's the pinnacle of Win32 compatibility so any program written for win32 api (usually old C++ enterprise shit) will work best on that OS.
>>
>>56605929
Yeah, my dad runs a Thinkpad T40 with it. I think he uses the POSReady theme.
>>
>>56607190

*T60, not sure how I managed that.

dualboot here,

I mainly use it to tidy up my 1000+ file folders,
using W7 as file explorer is a nightmare.
(specially with that auto arrange crap)
>>
Last year in October the Mexican Consulate in Dallas still used Windows XP. It would be funny if they are still using it.
>>
The banks in Lithuania
>>
>>56605929
I still use it because its the only thing this cpu will run on.

My meme degree class has most of it's computers with XP on them.

still have a bunch of XP systems laying around, use a few of them now and again
>>
>>56605954
You mean industrial production?

They use whatever was current when the machine was made. There are machines that still load from paper tape in use.
>>
>>56606383
Why it wouldn't run later Windowses programs then?
>>
>>56609009
Stuff gets added and removed from the API.

Backwards compatibility is different from forwards compatibility. You can play a CD in a DVD player but not the other way around.

It just works

A lot of that shit is XP-era nowadays though, with some DOS/9x holdouts here and there.

There's outliers like the PDP-11s in nuclear plants or IBM minicomputers in missile silos /g/ loves to bitch about but those aren't really the norm
>>

I've seen this around. What exactly is different there?
>>
my backup laptop with pentium m cpu and xp if my gaming pc fails. i never use my laptop so why buy a new one.
>>
>>56609288
not him, but

it does a lot automatically for you, even as far as install most drivers I think.

just check it out, I used to use the black edition alot. you can find it on somewhat any torrent site, I mostly used thepiratebay for it back then
>>
>>56605929
Old Fujitsu-Siemens prebuilt internet browsing machine for my parents still uses it. 3 GHz Pentium 4, 1 GB RAM, Geforce 6600GT.

A lot of cash registers and ATMs use stuff that's even older than XP though, especially if the businesses are too cheap to upgrade.

>ATM gets stuck in a loop, eats my card, then reboots
>cash register system at small local shop crashes, it's actually Win 95

I have, dualbooting with Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy currently because it just werks, I somewhat dislike the stock look of the current Ubuntu version.
>>
The school I work at uses XP still, I'm in the IT department and I've suggested we use Ubuntu or RHEL but I always get looked down upon or laughed at. They said Linux is an insecure and an unstable OS that doesn't have 'real' software like MS Office or Photoshop. My co workers are computer illiterate.

In a VM to play gaems.

I work at a refurbishing company, we use old laptops with windows XP on them for a particular purpose. The rest of the computers are on windows 7

if i had hardware old enough to run it i would, i have a SDRPlay software defined radio and the Linux apps that could run it is shit-tier, SDRCube crashes and locks up a lot and GQRX is not much better, so i keep one laptop around with win-7 on it to run HDSDR for my SDRPlay,

i really love Linux but there are some things it does not do well, but i use Linux 99% of the time for almost everything except running that one radio
>>
>>56616642
damn, it was so perfect
>>
Currently using it dual booted with windows 10. Only problem is every web browser I've tried (excluding IE) will crash randomly. Every program that's not a web browser runs fine though
>>
>>56605929
i have it in a VM and on a netbook, none of these see much use though
>>
i have a vm with it for testing purposes. mainly stick to windows 7, but with the number of xp machines that are likely to stick around for another decade it would be silly to not have it.
>>
>>56616952
Can you not do this in a VM?
>>
Only Windows I'd dual-boot desu
>>
Windows XP is great as long as you keep it detached from the internet.

>lightweight
>ridiculously fast
>small install
>plays all of the classic PC games

I have a Windows XP VirtualBox install that is really nice to use as a sandbox and for old 2D porn games.
>>
>>56605929
China internet cafe and botnets. XP is the starting point for any hacker. Take a look on your server logs.
>>
>>56617148
WinXP is fine as long as you now how to lock down every service and disable everything that has been exploited and not patched in XP PoSReady

Internet Options settings are basically the biggest reason for most exploits in WinXP.
Disable everything, install that Harden It and Secure It to lock down every hidden service and add a new zone to IO and block everything there too.

Done. Not a single virus.
No worms, no BIOS-shit, no malware, nuffin.
Literally the only thing that has been on my XP Machine was 4chan.js so I could decompile it and have my own fun.

512MB?! Oh god, that must be suffering even with XP.
From my first laptop, the change from 512 to 1024 massively improved things so much. (much less than 1->2 and 2->3.5~ gig did)
Mind you, the timings are different.

Ew, fuck, I never realized this was just Home edition.
I will change that went I get back from holiday next week.
>>
>>56617975
It's not all that bad, should be much better when I upgrade it with an SSD.
>>
>>56618008
That's what I will be slapping in here soon too.
Then install some TRIM program so shit won't go to hell over time and happy days.

Also, I forgot to refresh the icons before I took that picture. Woops.
The icons all got fucked when I resized the whole UI. Dat quicklaunch zone. Pfft.
>>

They are slowly adopting Windows 7 for x86 based shit anyways.

At least on the monitoring side of things.

>>
>>56619400
Oh, no, it's just the name of PowerVR/Intel iGPUs that were common on netbooks and never got proper Linux support. I thought your netbook has been blessed by that fine piece of silicon too.
My Asus netbook, that came with Ubuntu pre-installed, had it. It was my first Linux machine, so it took me a couple years to figure out why I couldn't play videos at 480p or higher without dropping frames.
Nowadays I avoid any product that has PowerVR in the specs to avoid further misery.

no, SDR radios work best with a real time OS or close to it, the more layers between the hardware the buggier and messier they are
>>

leftover parts from a previous build,
I just use it to organize photos and files.
