4k is limited to 4k streams (4000 kbits) which is sadly only enough to standard definition quality content.

if you connect your bluray player via SCART or AV then you should be fine because the signal is converted into the right format for your tv.

basically, 4k TVs are a scam.

Pretty much has it correctly. You need the SCART connector to receive the ultra high definition 4000 kbit stream rate. Alternatively purchase a RCA cable to upscale basic free to air TV to blu ray quality .
