Those are pretty fun too, but it usually ends with someone figuring out how to get root and rm-rfing the server.

Also banner gets annoying after a while.
>>
>>56590819
I have not, probably because my /g/ visits are sporadic these days.

I do still miss my early days, and then my IRC file-trading days. Those are largely gone now though. I mean, on the one hand it's great, because I essentially have access to everything I could want at a moment's notice whenever I feel the whim. On the other hand, I'm nostalgic for the days when my access to media was more limited, and therefore necessarily curated by whatever other users were offering. It felt like there was more of a connection back then.

Anyways, cheers to OP for being awesome.

I mean, I have it really good these days, but I remember sitting in IRC in a VTY and patiently waiting for things to download. I would usually be hacking away at something else in another VTY while listening to MODs and waiting for things to finish.

XDCC is still used by some subbing rooms, but it's mostly gone these days and Usenet is just sketch.

Now for the good news, we've crafted a script that parses the log files to see what files had incomplete uploads, and automatically deletes them. This is the first batch of deletes. If someone is missing or if it deleted something that it shouldn't have, please let us know so we can fix it.

>>
>>56591491
Will it kill my current uploads in progress?
>>
>>56591522
No, as they are not recorded on the logs until either the upload is completed successfully or the upload is completed unsuccessfully.

The only way it could kill the current uploads is if you've previously uploaded the file, it failed, I manually deleted it, you reattempted the download, and I ran the script while that was in progress.

I'll make sure to clean the logs every time the script runs, to avoid that.

Junior year as well, UCB.
However, I kinda "wasted" my first two years in a junior college, so I'm only starting on the entry level physics courses.

I say "wasted" because, while I don't have any class that counts towards my major, I did save a massive amount of money getting the core classes done.

I'm thinking about setting up my own private ftp server on a raspberry pi just for my friends to download some small stuff from.

My only problem with ftp though, is that downloading something from a server has to be concurrent. It's not like torrents where you can pause a transfer or check for validity.

Most of my friends have shitty internet, thus making downloading something from a ftp server problematic. If your trying to download a 5+gb game and your internet goes down, tough shit.

Is there anyway you can set up FTP to get around this? or is it just an inherent problem for protocol.

Would setting up a private torrent tracker be more worth it for me? I'm not sure how you even do that.
>>
>>56594913
>You'll need both a server and a client that supports REST (restart) and SIZE which are defined in RFC-3659. The server should respond to a FEAT command with REST STREAM.
>Ideally the client and server would support MDTM which reports the modification time of a file on the server so the client can decide if the file has been modified since it started transferring.

I tried it once using a 1st series B model back then, it was absolutely fucking terrible. Unstable connection, slow write/read speeds regardless of the FS of the USB storage (tried ext4 without journal, ext2 and FAT32).
Yeah, it is possible that there were problems at my side.
However, since raspi is too much USB bus dependent, I cannot recommend it to file server usage at any serious level.
Try something like Cubieboard.
-SoC ethernet
-SATA port
-plenty of Linux distros and other OS' available (from good ol' debian through gentoo to netBSD)

>>
>>56598233
>I tried it once using a 1st series B model back then, it was absolutely fucking terrible.
Though I wouldn't recommend a Pi as file server, performance should be much better now. The Pi has an awful USB controller that relies on software interrupts. The 1st gen models didn't have enough spare CPU to keep up, resulting in slow/unstable data transfer. It could get bad enough that a usb keyboard would cease functioning due to keypress events constantly dropping. Newer model's CPU capacity can more easily deal with the overhead.
>>
>>56598256
that can be just as problematic though as you don't know what files downloaded completely and having to check them manually is a pain in the ass.

there is always a way to distribute that shit. if you download every file and run it on your pc its you're fault.
