How to do the same with mpv?
>>

i use xrandr.lua, but that's for X11, dunno about windows
>>

Is there a reason why we need to use lua scripts?

as opposed to?

native implementation? submit a feature request, or write a patch and use/submit that
another language? request and/or patch

lua's plenty powerful, and pretty easy to learn

Yes but isn't it slower? I don't think the devs will implement this because it's different in each platforms and I think there are no cross-platform way to do this.
>>

It seems that plex (wm4 is working on it too) has this feature so why not copy-pasting it inside mpv?
>>

You can with lxss but provided mingw toolchain in ubuntu or any other linux is always outdated so better create ur own mingw toolchain

What are /g/'s thoughts on MadVR? Seems to have better quality options than MPV but I hate the fact that it's not open source.
>>
>>56587882
Prove it, seriously I think mpv is much better in quality.
>>
>>56587882
If you need madvr like meme filters like NNEDI3, SuperRes or CrossBilateral, there are available as MPV shaders there:

>>

>Because I really don't feel like downloading mingw

Just compile with msys2, dude.
>>
>>56587917
It's not all about the scaling options. Smooth motion is really useful for PAL-region content, plus it's just way better at being presenting frames at the right time for smooth playback, unlike EVR for example. Not sure how it stacks up compared to MPV.

Wikipedia says GIMP's Selective Gaussian Blur is a bilateral filter. Selective Gaussian Blur does debanding better than MPV's debanding. Bilateral debanding when?
>>
>>56588272
It's enough!
>>
>>56588169
If MPV ever misses a frame time, either you configured it wrong or your OS sucks.

No point in using nnedi at low neurons

Yes superxbr would be probably more efficient but nnedi3 is really less destructive.
>>
mpv is gpl'd software though. If your using windows, shouldn't you use some shit tier proprietary media player of some type?
>>
>>56588298
Well I just downloaded it and fired up a 1080i/25 video. It doesn't deinterlace by default (why) and it certainly isn't smooth. Changing audio tracks results in out of sync audio.

>inb4 it's your hardware

MPC-HC + MadVR work perfectly.

Why doesn't this work to make mousewheel up/down control volume?

AXIS_UP add volume 2

My other rebinds in input.conf work fine.
>>

Thats wrong key
>>
>>56587735
The implementation would be on a per-backend basis. Those are already essentially platform-specific.

For example, the x11/glx backend would use XRandR, the wayland backend would use whatever the wayland protocol requires, and the wgl/angle/dxinterop backends would use Windows-specific methods.
>>

Why doesn't madshi open source his shit and merge it with mpc-hc as it's probably the only player that works with it?

>>
>>56588530
>It doesn't deinterlace by default (why)
I don't know, but I'm going to guess it's probably to avoid issues with mistagged files.

There are a number of other tags which mpv ignores by default because they're commonly mistagged, but I don't know if that was the specific reason in this case or not.

At any rate, I don't think anybody in mpv cares much about deinterlacing. Most features that get implemented are for forwards compatibility (e.g. HDR or UltraHD), not backwards compatibility (e.g. deinterlacing or DVDs).

Thanks OP, devs and contributors, I finally have a perfect config.
It works perfectly on my 72hz display monitor and my 60hz laptop.
Furthermore, oversample is less choppy than madvr smoothmotion.

The spline16 up/scaler looks very good for almost no gpu usage with 720p videos.

I'm trying to get the low-end possible settings for software decoding.
Currently using "opengl", but this but a lot of load on CPU, espacially when playing HEVC.
Is there other parameters that I can add?
>>
So EGL will be used by default now instead of GLX?
>>

Are you using shinchiro's mpv build? I ask since that normally has better HEVC performance.

I'm guessing you're holding off on using 'hwdec' because it gives worse results.

No.
I'm on arch with mpv 0.20.0-1.
I'm using SW decoder since HW decoder require installing Intel drivers.

The temp seems fine for what it is. The CPU can handle about 100C on max, however sub 90 is really safe.

If tscale=oversample was the default then it wouldn't be so bad, because that's a null operation when the refresh rate is correct. Then interpolation would only be a workaround for monitors being the wrong speed, which is an improvement for people stuck with hardware that can't do any better.

just because winfags are just now checking out mplayer-like players doesn't mean it's new

Because I can't play 4K smoothly with OpenGL due to OpenGL being a piece of shit

Vulkan fixes all these problems and more
>Higher throughput thanks to pipelining
>No more missed frames due to swap chains
>Accurate latency reporting
>Fast, pipelined, non-fragmented, streamlined texture uploading
>Queuing/rendering frames in advance
>Drops the high performance requirements from display-sync
>Makes the code more readable and saner
>Allows us to micro-optimize inner loops with SPIR-V
>No longer bound by shitty GLSL restrictions (say hello to fast NNEDI3)

tl;dr I now really want to see this happen, it will improve so many things and make mpv actually viable for 4K playback.

how do you guys handle playlists containing files from several different folders?

I usually use VLC for this as it has a god tier playlist system, but recently it was giving me extra playback troubles, so I have been using mpv more. Recently found out that if I save my vlc playlists as .m3u I can open them in mpv, but then they get visually messed up in VLC with parts of the file name going into the artist column that I don't have displayed, so basically the names are shortened when I go into vlc to edit the playlist again. I've also just done

mpv anime/show1/episode7 anime/show2/episode7 anime/show3/episode8
, etc. before, but then that's hard to change and it doesn't have a version my friends can look at when deciding order to watch things in.

I have been recommended smplayer as it has some sort of graphical playlist system, but it seems so bad compared to vlc that I'd rather just type out where all the files are.

>isn't it slower
I am not sure how you would write it, but the script should only call once on event, then sleep. There is no speed to be taken into account.

I am not a fan of all the scripting languages either, or perhaps just their implementations. Writing a calculator in C# would be a terrible idea and that's not even a script, because then you go from 862 KB for a basic calculator (standard, scientific, programmer, statistics -- win32calc), to a bloated app that takes a second to load up.

But in the case of lua in MPV, it's not supposed to be constantly running or taking a second to load up anything. So speed is not an issue, but with so many people able to get into lua with just a few minutes of reading about it, it allows for far more scripts. Now you can have an idea and implement it, rather than create an issue on github and hope it'll get sorted for you when a C programmer has time to implement it.

That was incoherent, sorry.

QTGMC progressive mode + a light denoiser master race

QTGMC is designed as a very high quality deinterlacer, but in progressive mode is also has an interesting "noise stabilising" effect, which makes noise appear more static
this has the advantage of;
- making the video more easily compressed, just like regular denoisers
- retaining far more detail than regular denoisers

there's a port of it available for vapoursynth, which you can use directly in mpv, though i typically just use it when encoding noisy videos
you'd need a pretty impressive cpu to use this in real time

here's my simple "qtgmc-denoise.vpy" which can be used with mpv;
import sys
import vapoursynth as vs
import havsfunc as haf

core = vs.get_core()
clip = video_in
clip = haf.QTGMC(clip, Preset='Fast', InputType=1, TFF=True, NoiseProcess=1, Denoiser='dfttest')

clip.set_output()

you'll need vapoursynth, mpv built with vapoursynth support, and the havsfunc/mvsfunc vapoursynth plugins
