An Aussie anon posted this Raketa in the last thread, does anyone have a model number for it? Also, best place to buy Ruskie/Raketa/Vostocks?
>>
>>56572780
There are old catalogs with model numbers scanned on Raketa's website, but finding one by model number is pretty much impossible.
>>
>>56562857

Then why the fuck would anyone by ETA?

I mean, if you buy more than one watch that's not quartz then you're bound to have to wind it if you alternate.

So if I buy an ETA I'm basically destroying it unless I wear it every day.
>>
>>56573382
watch winder bro
>>
>>56573382
you only need to wind it enough to start it
then wear it
>>
>>56573523

God fucking damn it then what is a small winder that is virtually unnoticeable?

There's plenty of single watch winders that's just a box that holds 1 watch. But IMO they aren't worth it for the prices they come at. I got this 4 watch winder that doubles as a watch box for $76. It's almost what you have to pay for a single watch winder anyways.

Russian's make the cheapest decent watches. The Chinese made shitters like PARNIS are actually better and more expensive.

There's Shanghai for cheap chinese:

http://good-stuffs.com/Shanghai_c_13.html

They're like the HMT of China. Acrylic crystal, cheaply made but thin 17 jewel hand-wind only movement (likely a Citizen clone like HMT).

That was me, I went to sleep before you replied

I bought it from Ebay, which is probably the best place to buy a similar watch. I can't give you a specific model and I think hunting for an exact copy would be hard, especially with a language barrier. It is hard to find specific Soviet watches in huge numbers besides a few makes and models, such as Vostok afibias, poljot de lux and raketa big zero

There are a few good people to buy from, it appears most of them make a living from selling ex Soviet watches. The leather strap that most come with will be pretty shitty,

Give the photos a close look to inspect any wear and tear. It is sometimes a thing to put together the movements from a couple of different watches, like building a watch out of parts, if this concerns you make sure there is a photo of the movement in the listing. Ask me anything mate, I always lurk these threads, usually post with this name on but I haven't been lately

Anyone know of a dive watch that is in 38mm?

Wouldn't a 42mm watch, for example, the SKX007, look tacky on a 6 inch wrist?

I want a dive watch due to them being, for practical purposes, waterproof, as well as the higher quality materials and decent looks.

Vostok ampibias are technically divers. They don't have the cliche diver look to them. You need to get a new one for it to be water proof enough for diving

I'm not sure what you are going to get up to with the watch, but if you are actually doing a bit of work, like on a shovel or something it might be a better idea to get a Quartz watch. The 7s26 movement isn't the best at taking a beating (don't take that as gospel)

Fine enough for most stuff, but if you are doing repeated work where it could get damaged it might not be a good idea
>>
>>56580677
>>56580780
Working with it would be fine, but having it on your wrist while you dig trenches with a mattock or something will give you some accuracy issues. It should be fine for you though, for some reason I'm picturing you working in a shitty cointry doing hard labour

The Casio Oceanus is the nicest looking and best made solar charging radio controlled watch. As long as you live within range of one of the 6 signal broadcasters in the world, the Oceanus will automatically adjust itself every night for time, day of the month, and SAT.

This means the watch will remain correct to within less than a second for the entire 10-15+ years it takes for the solar charging battery to need replacement.

It is also one of less than five (all made by Casio) radio controlled watches that show time and date only in decent styling, unlike the plethora of hideous ana-digi or overly busy chronograph radio controlled wstches.

A cheaper option that meets all of the above criteria is the Casio Lineage LIW-130TDJ-1AJF

>Is quartz a bad thing?
Not inherently, but the vast majority of quartz watches are dogshit. Casio's oceanus is a rare example of an excellent quartz watch.

There's piles of crap out there; gold-plated chronographs, brand knock-offs, fashion watches, etc. It's really nice when companies like Casio, Seiko, and Citizen make high-quality quartz watches which don't pretend to be something else.

Watch repair anon here. Now that I only work on my own watches at the workplace I got nothing to do at home while having not one but two workbenches. So I cracked open my half done model planes and tanks. Now that I have a loupe, precision tweezers, oilers, crystal glue, polishing compounds and whatnot I should be able to build at far greater detail than before. But I'm probably rusty as fuck so I need to start at the beginning first, with something simple, so I'll be ordering a basic 1:72 plane kit.

So no, it literally doesn't add up to "hundreds" of dollars. In fact, you can buy a Korean-made, Miyota 9015-powered watch, with sapphire glass, for $195: http://www.tisellkr.com/

There are watches without screw-down crowns which are rated to 200m.

10bar/100m is the minimum recommended rating to swim with. In my opinion, "sports" watches which can't be taken swimming are stupid.

Autodromo could change the caseback to a screw-in design, and properly seal the crown, but they choose not to. They're selling Miyota 9015 movements in splash-proof cases for ludicrous money.

You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. >>56596757
What are you willing to do for it?

>>56596786
I know you're having a laugh, but the tanks design dates back surprisingly far, I think the late 1920's of the top of my head
>>
>>56596968
And citizen which was pic related. Vostok=poo in the streets
>>
>>56596785
The citizen and the seiko are both discontinued.
>>
>>56596991
Doesn't that citizen use a miyota movement?

Vostoks are alright, the amphibias are actually decent, the soviet military used them, even came up with a very effective unique design so they didn't have to pay patent fees
>>
>>56597035
>>56596991
Miyota is citizen, my bad. Didn't even realise they pulled a seiko and have other watches using their movements
>>
>>56597035
Miyota is the movement division of Citizen.
>>
>>56597006
But still wiely available though... And nobodys picking winners either
>>
>>56597163
SKX or full lume dial Citizen.
>>
>>56597163
I can't find the Citizen automatic diver anywhere anymore. The SKX007 is still widely available yes. But as for a winner, SKX007 cause I like the design better. The Miyota and Orient might have better movements though, the 7S26 is the most basic of Seiko movements and not very accurate. I've had much better accuracy with Orient movements.
>>
>>56597359
>>56597298
And why would you pick the Seiko?
>crappier movement, not up to modern standards in accuracy and functionality
>cheaper design and worse manufacturing quality
>>
>>56597378
Aesthetics. But I agree, the 7s26 sucks compared to an Orient movement, especially the new ones with hacking and hand wind. Maybe the Seiko Monster would be better since it uses the 4R36.

Besides water resistance standards to a minimum of 100 m depth rating ISO 6425 also provides minimum requirements for mechanical diver's watches (quartz and digital watches have slightly differing readability requirements) such as:[20]

The presence of a unidirectional bezel with at least at every 5 minutes elapsed minute markings and a pre-select marker to mark a specific minute marking.
The presence of clearly distinguishable minute markings on the watch face.
Adequate readability/visibility at 25 cm (9.8 in) in total darkness.
The presence of an indication that the watch is running in total darkness. This is usually indicated by a running second hand with a luminous tip or tail.
Magnetic resistance. This is tested by 3 expositions to a direct current magnetic field of 4,800 A/m. The watch must keep its accuracy to ± 30 seconds/day as measured before the test despite the magnetic field.
Shock resistance. This is tested by two shocks (one on the 9 o'clock side, and one to the crystal and perpendicular to the face). The shock is usually delivered by a hard plastic hammer mounted as a pendulum, so as to deliver a measured amount of energy, specifically, a 3 kg hammer with an impact velocity of 4.43 m/s. The change in rate allowed is ± 60 seconds/day.
Chemical resistance. This is tested by immersion in a 30 g/l NaCl solution for 24 hours to test its rust resistance. This test water solution has a salinity comparable to normal seawater.
Strap/band solidity. This is tested by applying a force of 200 N (45 lbf) to each spring bar (or attaching point) in opposite directions with no damage to the watch or attachment point.
The presence of an End Of Life (EOL) indicator on battery powered watches.
Testing diving watches for ISO 6425 compliance is voluntary and involves costs, so not every manufacturer present their watches for certification according to this standard.

No it isn't, because ISO have a battery of specific function tests which certify the watches to be useable in the conditions they're intended for.

>>
>>56600256
No, it's really not big talk at all. Anyone who's trained in an engineering field, of any kind, will have to complete courses on quality management, health and safety, and organization.

In the first few years of an engineer's career, they'll be made familiar with around 10 different ISO certifications. They have to be, or else the company they're working for won't be allowed to hold those certifications.

If you don't know how important ISO certs are, you're completely unemployable as an engineer.
>>
>>56600230
anyone with half a fucking brain can look at the specs of a steinhart and figure it can probably pass ISO testing

and there's no official body that oversees watch testing, it's not like the company sends them off to be tested by anyone.
