Update on yesterdays Tissot PRC 200. It's water damaged. Owner claims it never was near water, but there's corrosion on the inside of the case, the plastic spacer and the movement. Looks like it leaked in from the buttons.

I wonder who's lying, the guy, the previous place to change the battery or Tissot with their 200m WR, but no screw-down buttons.

I belive so. The movements are better adjusted and quite better refinishing as well. Mine was of the special edition, limited to only seven in the world, so I honestly don't know the price of the normal ones.

Sadly not pictured: a Heuer mikrograph stopwatch (not watch) from the 70s at 50Hz (360000vph).

The Seiko sweep quartz has to go in for service somewhere... it's started running at exactly double speed (???). Trying to decide whether to send it to Japan or just give it to my guy at Kenjo.

A simple Swiss 17jewel handwound movement.

Need to wear a watch in an environment where it will be disinfected 2-3 times a day. May get puke/shit/pus or whatever on it every now and then.
Won't be wearing it on leather or SS bracelet (bacteria may get trapped between links).

With that in mind, best beater watch for under $200? Having a sapphire crystal would be a plus and not having bevels in the bezel would also be a plus.

It was a father's day gift, so unfortunately no longer in my possession. I'll get some better shots when I visit for Thanksgiving. This is the best there is for now.

I took the Seiko around 5th and Madison today and nobody would agree to service it so off to Japan it goes (one helpful saleswoman said "take it down to the diamond district, lots of reputable watchmakers there! They even fix the pateks!" but I decided to take a pass...).

Also not pictured: Swatch skin, runs at 0.05Hz (two-hander, motor advances once every twenty seconds).

it indeed is mine, its too small though. ended up being 27mm instead of 30.
its a quartz movement with classical (mechanical) complications added. there's more of them with zodiac signs and perpetual calendars and such. definitely want to get a mens one. according to antiquorum this one has an equation of time complication. i could be the black dots but i have really no idea desu.
the finishing is also damn fine.

so what do you think about the grand seiko quartz movements? are they for real or just memes?

i've heard they only use metal parts and they have created special proprietary ointments for the watch to go without a service for 50 years.
also the watch is specified to run +/- 5 seconds a year precise.
They also grow their quartzes and only the best are hand picked for GS movements

Sounds neat. How long can a ETA cosc quartz last in comparison?
>>
Here is mine for a year now.
(it's my everyday watch)

Pro :
- Unbreakable.
- +3min max per week. (I adjust -3min so it's ok for 2~3 weeks)
- I wear it when I swim, even in the Sea : It's still water-prof.

Cons :
- The glass is a scratch-magnet.
- The strap smells like a wet Dog after a week (you need to wash it time to time).
- The little phosphorescent insert on the custom bezel has gone the 2nd month.

well cosc quartz movements are very uncommon, i think some breitlings use them (super quartz) but i'm not that certain. a well produced quartz movement can last very long, but i'm also not certain about servicing and loss of accuracy as i never owned a high end quartz.
you could look into some old rolex oysterquratzes

I do own a Lemania 5100 Speedmaster, but not in that particular case. Mine is reference 176.0012 aka as Speedmaster Mark 4.5

However, probably the main reason as to why I haven't bought one is otherwise simple: I haven't came across any yet. I prefer to buy my watches from collectors and watch dealers, not the internet and I have never seen one for sale irl.

Also, if I were to buy one of Maddox's nickname Omegas, I would buy the Darth Vader first.

>>56539997

Man I'm in love with my snk809. This thing is losing an average of 5s/day out of the box. How can people pay 3-4 times the price on some watches with 3-4 times higher deviation. Did I just get lucky? The only problem with it is that I can't seem it to gain s/day no matter what position I let it rest overnight in (crown down netted me a 0 sec loss though)

guys, i looked into vostok on ebay, and there is a really wide selection of legit ones with the ussr print on it, kinda neat.

there is something that I am a bit bothered by though, the fact that it is used. it isn't the scratches or aging, that adds character. its just that i sort of feel like something as personal as a watch ought not to be shared.
larger objects like an instrument, a book, a car, who gives a fuck?
but you wouldn't share your pants, you know? then would you share a watch?

what do you guys think? did any of you feel similar, and have to struggle to get over that initially?

Not that anon, but it's a good watch, and great for the price.

Biggest pros: size, sandblasted finish is attractive (and even the strap hardware matches), built pretty solid, caseback window, lume is decent.

Biggest cons: no handwind, crown is too small to operate easily, strap is uncomfortable, date change takes around five hours to finish.

Size comparison with a 42mm B&M Classima 8688 and Aevig Huldra, both 42mm

i'm not going to weigh the topicality of every other thread on /g/ against this one and conclude that precisely one of them needs to be kicked out. we're in the watch thread and this one doesn't belong here. it's a fine thread that topically belongs in /fa/.

>no, please no [don't take an interesting thread away]
there's nothing wrong with this thread. that doesn't mean it belongs here. /g/ isn't the "interesting things" board. visit other boards if there are other interesting things you like that aren't tech related. and if you're not interested in anything else on /g/, then it's fine to stop browsing /g/.

>besides that, /fa/ really blows
1) that doesn't give you a right to co-opt this board. what if some people on /v/ decided that they were sick of that board and that they would start up here?
2) you need to own the quality of the boards you post in, and post where your topic is relevant. posting here just because you're comfy is unhealthy. go branch out.

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!
>>
>>56554935
>i can't leave /g/
you need to get help. this isn't our problem. it's squarely yours. and i mean it in the nicest possible way when i say that you need to get yourself help.

>I already read all of the books i wanted
you've already read all the books you know about that you wanted. you can't possibly expect me to believe that you know every book in every domain that interests you. i don't even know how this is relevant to your justification that a watch thread should be on /g/ and not on another board except that you seem to be desperate to explain your life to me. this sounds like something a therapist is better trained to do.

find yourself a therapist and get good help.

and before anybody accuses me of being a dick, there's nothing wrong with getting therapy. if you broke a bone you're not a pussy for going to a doctor. you're not an invalid if someone helps you get back on your feet. just stop ignoring and running away from it because now it's becoming a nuisance to others.

you might consider my posting to be shitty meta posting, but this thread is off topic. the sooner you agree, the sooner you can discuss this on a board that's been made specifically for you and your friends to discuss this stuff.

if you want the freedom to post about whatever with no restrictions, go to /b/. if you want a sense of community where all that matters is that you feel comfortable with that group, go find a regular forum like a support group or something.
>>
>>56555057

>>
>>56555087
i know you don't care. otherwise you wouldn't post these threads every time. i'm telling others that this thread would be more suited to /fa/. you're interpreting that as an insult or something, but it's not meant as one. this thread would be more appropriate on another board.

if someone started posting really amazing landscape photos they took with a DSLR, that would be nice. on /p/. the fact that the photos were taken with something involving technology doesn't give the photographer a right to make /g/ put up with it. if you don't care about that, then you should probably get panned from posting on /g/ for some time.

i want you to explore your other interests in as healthy a way as possible. to the extent that using 4chan is something other than toxic, cross-pollinating is the best thing you can do for yourself. it prompts you to interact with different groups of people. that's healthy. and it's not just good for you, but it's good for /g/. you can come here expecting to talk about technology, rather than having to see people talk about vaping or video games or television or whatever else.

if you want someone to care about your individual wellbeing, don't look for that person on an anonymous image board. go find a forum, or make a friend offline, or pay someone to take an interest in your emotional wellbeing (again, there's nothing wrong with that)

Which wrist do you guys use to wear your watch?

Pic related, for some reason royals use the right hand, even when they are not left handed.

OK nigger, with that advanced level of logic there is not much i can do here.
Of course the misery and poverty of the kingdom of Norway cant be compared to the riches and luxury of the state of Jordan or Thailand (lel), sorry my example doesn't satisfy you high demands, but my question still remains unanswered, why do this people even if they are not left handed use the watch on the right hand?

I'm a bit ashamed to ask, but what does the part named "regulator marker" on a Tissot 2481 do? It's the top part on the balance assembly with the +/- markings. Some examples of the movement have that part, some don't but work fine, including mine.

I literally found nothing about it in the textbooks, is it just to secure the regulator down by tightening that screw?

Royals wear their watches on their right hand because they have people who can operate the crown for them. The average Joe without any servants will have to operate the crown himself. As you'll notice the crown is only easily accessible if you wear on your left.

Requesting help to identify and gather information on this movement.
It is made by Fontaine (any info on company useful as well) is Swiss made, and most likely from the 60's.

This was the movement in a Super Tuff watch with Incabloc. The dial and hands were cleaned by myself, case scrubbed and lightly re brushed. I got the main spring running again and fixed the winding click and winding wheel in order to wind the main spring, hence how I got it running again. The main issue is that I can't set the time, the crown knob fully screws out, but not with the stem. Is it jammed? How can I fix my issue with not being able to pull it out and set the time?

I have no idea why it is in such a bad condition. It is over 50 years old assumingly so that might explain some of the deterioration, the rust is a bit much. I usually just buy vintage mechanicals at the flea market or on eBay as is, and see if I can salvage some of the movements or dials, or to see if I can fix them. This was just an interesting movement, and thought I would try regardless. The rust may? or may not be the issue regarding the setting of the time. But I have little to no information about this movement.
