You're already using 50% RAM which is a lot. For someone who multitasks often 4GB of RAM on a phone would be the bare minimum.

Sigh
My first Android phone was a ZTE Blade I bought for like 100$ and ran Android 2.1. I even ran Lollipoop on it. It had a 600 MHz CPU, 512 mb RAM, 480p screen. I still don't understand how Android manages to use so much RAM these days or why OEMs are putting on 6 GBs of it when it'll never be used

>>
>>56569984
>>56570100
Resurrection Remix has way more features, but Cyanogenmod is more stable. RR is basically CM+few other ROMs mixed into one.
>>
>>56569932
>I still don't understand how Android manages to use so much RAM these days
It doesn't. Modern Android alone only uses ~400MB of RAM.

>or why OEMs are putting on 6 GBs of it when it'll never be used
It will if you want to heavily multitask.

The real problem of all this RAM usage lies in web pages and the apps themselves. All those things are using more RAM than ever.
>>
>>56569586
>TFW You fell for the 4GB HBM1 meme
Well, I'm glad that the Fury X is still the best AMD single GPU offering, but the 4GB only is starting to restrict some games.
Then again, I don't think it'd make much/any difference even if I had 8GB of HBM2 on it.
>>
I have a Moto G 2nd gen with 1GB RAM and I've literally never had any problems with it.

I'm genuinely curious about what you people do to think fucking 4GB is the minimum acceptable

My next phone I'll take RAM into better consideration - my shit is almost always maxed. It runs well enough but I always like to have breathing room (32 GiB on laptop-fag here)

Can you tell me situations where you have problems? Because I really don't understand. Like, sometimes if you switch to another app, like from chrome to PDF reader, it will have to reload the PDF page but that takes like literally 2 seconds. Do people pay hundreds of dollars for 2 seconds load times?

You realize the person posting that image uses an iPhone right?
>>
>>56573408
as a particular use case, switching from chrome with one tab to anything kills chrome, have to wait at least 15-20 seconds and lose my place if the page I had loaded isn't static.

generally, I can't run more than 2 or 3 apps at the same time without either of them closing.

if I'm traveling it's the worst because I'm trying to run a lot of stuff simultaneously and it shits all over itself

Why do I have so many more apps than avera/g/e that use RAM?

I am not even a power user on my phone
>>
I used to rock a 2011 Xperia up until a month ago. Bought the Xperia Z2.

Holy fuck, it's heaven:
1Ghz singlecore -> 2Ghz quad cpu
512MB -> 3GB RAM
1100mAh -> 3200mAh battery

Not to mention a sexy display and a much better camera
>>
>>56574682
It's not the app itself but the cache it stores. Go to whatever app is taking up RAM, clear the cache, swipe it off active apps, and you will get a fuckload of RAM freed up. Apps like Chrome, Youtube, Clover are one of the main culprits of using too much RAM when cache builds up in them.
>>
>>56573888
Did stock lollipop kill your phone?
>>
>>56574682
See pic related, I got all that cache from just browsing videos a couple of days.
>>
>>56575086
>>56575105
No I meant 92 apps in a day versus the 40-50 range for most of yall
>>
>>56575105
This accounts for storage usage only, not RAM
>>
>>56575167
Cache is loaded into the RAM if the app is active you dumb fuck. Go on a video watching spree on youtube and browse desktop pages on Chrome and watch RAM get eating up like kinder bueno sticks.

Cache is actually a very beneficial thing depending on the app, it's purpose and your use cases.

Pic related. 172 MB might seem a lot for an app that's just over 1MB itself, but makes browsing through galleries a breeze.
>>
>>56575093
T-Mobile never updated past KitKat I think. I don't really know since the moment I got this moment, I rooted and installed CM 10

This is not always true.

Pic related. Cache is about 170MB but the most RAM it has ever taken is ~110MB

Oh, also: Fuck you.
>>
>>56575325
If Cache was not loaded into RAM then how do you think you are able to quickly browse pics in that app? Think man.

>>56575295
As long as you keep it down lika a sane person, sure, why not.

But then there's those dumb fucks who clear everything at all times. Pretty much destroying their battery themselves, no need for obscure Chinese spyware shit.
>>
Are you retards really this retarded? Cache is loaded into RAM if needed. Your gallery appz and shit are caching thumbnails so they don't have to rape your CPU every time you open the app. If you only load the first page worth of your 9000 pages of images, only the first page (plus maybe a few extra to let you scroll quickly) will load into RAM

So yes, an app will very often cache more than you will need at all times when using the app
>>
When will the phone RAM meme end

2GB is enough
3GB is extra comfy
4GB+ is overkill

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with stuffing a ton of RAM into these devices. I'm saying that it means you don't need to keep fretting over it constantly.
>>
>>56575355
It doesn't get loaded into RAM entirely though, I though the oposite was implied but I must have made a wrong assumption. My bad if so.

But even then, depending on the app, clearing cache might worsen the user experience for little if any benefit.
>>
>>56575430
>When will the phone RAM meme end
It won't. In fact one day phones will simply load everything into the fucking RAM for the fastest access time and longest battery life possible.

>I'm not saying there's anything wrong with stuffing a ton of RAM into these devices. I'm saying that it means you don't need to keep fretting over it constantly.
I guess but more RAM is always better especially for a phone where battery life is of paramount importance. In fact it's a little known fact that Android generally has better battery life than iPhones because of how much fucking RAM it has (ie less reloading shit).
>>
>>56575252
Cache over time really fucks with your device. I use an iPhone 5 and there's no way to clear your app cache. You just have to delete your app and redownload it. It's hell.
>>
>>56570194
