Personally I think 5" is the sweet spot, after that it feels clunky and not easily pocketable

Most people cannot comfortably use a 5" phone with one hand. It also doesn't fit in many pockets.

I recently went from a Galaxy Note 4 to a Honor Note 8 and I love it. Going back is impossible. Note 4 feels tiny.

Otherwise, if you have your nose in your phone all the time, then 5.5 inches is great but a tablet is a better device for that anyways.

I'm a trap and can't handle phones larger than 4" with one hand. Size doesn't really matter to me anymore and I just get the biggest phone so I can read manga comfortably.

A clamshell design with a foldable screen would be perfect. It would be revolutionary. Imagine the presentation by for example Samsung. They point out how phones will always either have broken screen, or a big, ugly protection. And how you can never find the perfect phone for movies that also fits into your pocket. Then they show off their revolutionary flip phone that solves all the problems. It would be perfect. Small footprint, big screen and protects itself against damages. If they can only get foldable screens to work, they'd be able to make the perfect phone
