Hey /g/ !
Currently running :
i7 950 on a low end X58 mobo
Radeon HD 6970
CORSAIR 3x4GB DDR3 (because tri channel mem controller at the time )
So it's getting a bit old and laggy for 1080p gaming and i m looking to upgrade.
So far, plan is :
i5 6600K on decent Z170 mobo (for future OCing)
Asus GTX1070 Stryx 8GB
2x4 GB DDR4 (brand and speed to be determined)
Case stays the same Cooler Master HAF X
Looking for any advices and constructive input to help me
Available budget is around 1000 €/1120$

Go for a 4970k
Same price but better single threading.
Or get a Haswell-E for a workhorse build.
Skylake is a power efficiency meme.

No need for a GTX 1070, get 1060 or RX 480 and get a 6700k.
>>56564479
4790k*

I did.
Which is why I m not here asking anyone to build me a pc my good sir.
I m looking for inputs that's it.
Now if that is the kind of response you are offering I kindly invite you to go fuck yourself.

May be an idea but those I7 just seem kind of overkill for gaming (and they are more expensive where I live, about 90 € more )
I don't do photo/video editing and that s where the "mo' threads, mo' better " gets useful right ?
Quite a few games don't take full advantage of multithreading anyway
Any recommendations for Ram , brand I don t really care , frequency is a different question as I m New with DDR4 , I understand that timings are a lot worse but somehow it seems fine ?
Are you my Dad? Because he had the exact same rig, minus the 6970 (which he DID have but upgraded to a 7970 a few years back).
Anyway, I just built the old man a new rig. 6600k, MSI Z170 M5, 16GB RAM, GTX 1080. Working out pretty well for him and I inherited his old rig, which is working out just fine for me.
