Fellow /g/ bro running a Thinkpad T430.

I'm tempted to install gentoo but I'm very hesitate because I keep hearing rumors that if you fuck up the installation it could trash your cpu, hard drive, or whatnot. Is this true?

Who the fuck told you this bullshit? This is not true at all. Just make sure you unplug your Ethernet cable every once and then, the data transfer rate is too high and it might burn the cables or even your network card.
